do you have to have VCT connected on your s14?

i was just thinking
what happends if you disconnect the plug for VCT. does the car play up and run shit because the actual VCT gear is still in the car?
if anyone knows that would be awsome

cheers

Never physically disconnected it, but using nissan datascan to disable it made it run shitty. Assume it would do the same if it was physical disco'd.
but have you done it yet to see what happens?

Your answer might be here: http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/23907-...sable-vtc.html

The solenoid stays retracted without power. No interference, Just laggy with VTC off.

Exactly. The VTC is there to increase low-end response and trq...

just want to know because i destroyed the motor on my streeter the other day and now replaced it with another motor and never changed the cam gear back to S13, ( because i just run stock motors *(s14de + 1.8mm metal gasets) on my s13 daily with s13 loom so i can't run VCT or anything!) Tomorrow ill remove the vct gear and replace with a s13 one from my destroyed motor ! and let you guys know if thats why this things mega slow now!
Thanks

It's the Cam not the VCT that is causing the lag. The VCT advances the cam from idle to TQ peak. Your best bet is to swap the S13 intake cam with the gear.

The cam is exactly the same size as the exhaust... They didn't change the cam size, duration, or lift over the S13's. They simply implemented the VTC to help with low-end trq.

If you install the S13 cam gear, you should have a normal operating intake cam.

haha nah man its not the cam.

LOL i have lots of these SR S14 DE's.

the intake cam on DE is the SAME it just has 0.75mm more lift on INTAKE.

the exhaust has same lift

they have 9degrees more duration then DET.

What i mean is, my car has jack shit power as if the valve is bent or something. I will compression test it before i chage the cam gear back to S13.

thanks anyway

So is it possible to use an Sr20de (FWD) say from a Sentra? I know you would need to grind down the pinons, but would they work with the VTC on an S14 sr20?
