proto motoring shady?
wow after reading that post about proto motoring and hearing mixed feelings from peoples experience i googled them, and saw the services they offer.
then i checked the California Bureau of automotive repair to see where they stand as a shop and I find out that they have a delinquent BAR license, which means they are not legally operating their shop. how can they not renew, its already july 2009. wow thats not shady at all.... i was going to post this info in that other thread buy phlip locked it. here's the info i got BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR Licensee Name:PROTO MOTORING License Type:Automobile Repair Dealer License Number:252649 License Status:Delinquent Definition Expiration Date:October 31, 2008 Address:5885 JURUPA AVENUE #C & D City:RIVERSIDE State:CA Zip:92504 County:RIVERSIDE Actions:No Green Station: N Business Owners BELAMIDE ARNOLD J , Related Licenses/Registrations/Permits No records returned Disciplinary Actions No information available from this agency Disciplinary Documentation This information is updated Monday through Friday - Last updated: JUL-14-2009 Disclaimer All information provided by the Department of Consumer Affairs on this web page, and on its other web pages and internet sites, is made available to provide immediate access for the convenience of interested persons. fuck these guys. They dont have a dollar to thier name, I know someone who bought a car from them and found out its 2 different cars WELDED TOGETHER, and they would not take it back. another situation is that i know someone that was promised a completely rebuilt ka and when he got it he drove home and found out it had a blown headgasket.
theres countless problems that have risen from these butt-fucks, its not even funny. I had a friend call proto and tell them that there were threads on zilvia about them. then that faggitass motherfucker James just laughed along with a guy named dennis about the whole situation. there like dude we could care less. all in all, just stay away. you have a better chance of trying to buy a used car from someone else, as well as do work. |

Sadly, people STILL continue to go to these shops for some reason or another. I just don't understand why?
I mean if you search PROTO MOTORING into google you'll automatically come up with some threads about how they scam someone. I guess some people just don't use the internet to research shops before they get work done there. |

yeah, also, those of you that know of Expo motors, they are the same company! Becareful. a buddy of mine bought a car from there, woke up to find that some people were trying to break into his car, and verified that it was one of the workers before they fled. Do not associate with Expo or Proto!

They might not even learn the hard way. Lot of times, buyers get all emotionally riled up from anticipating a purchase, to the point where they don't even behave rational. Could be 'retail therapy'. There are a multitude of explanations no doubt. Questionable enterprises in any industry are always plentiful. It's more a case of customers screwing themselves over. There will always be a market for that. |

It's pretty funny because just after I posted, I did a quick google search and sure enough, one of the first threads on there was about a guy who was pissed because he bought a crap car from Proto for 8000$. All stock 1995 240SX.
So I guess it shows what ronmcdon's said, being played out. Funny part was that one of the owners posted in the thread and the idiot said that he does not sell junk cars but claimed that because they're old cars and people drift them and race them, that they'll have problems. |

I bought my first car from them like 4 years ago when I was a newb. The car was a bit overpriced and it didn't really come out the way I wanted it to, and it took a long time for them to "put the car together".
The people there are nice, didn't really think they were shady at all. IDK if they have changed since 4 years ago, but the car I bought from them was awesome up until the point where I wrecked it. Just wanted to share my experience. |

Come to me instead, if you're in KS, LOL! Fries knows I'll do anything for free as long as you're willing to learn how to DIY. Now, don't send me any PMs about building your motor or what have you just yet. I'm currently in Iraq and I sure won't be able to do much all the way from here. P.S. I'm not a business owner or anything. I'm just a U.S. service member who is a car enthusiast when I'm not deployed. I love building motors and helping others out, so if anyone ever needs any kind of help, I'd be more than willing to be of help. That's how I started out in the car scene. There were people who helped me out a bit, and I'm just paying it forward. Haha, I used a cliche comment on a car forum! ![]() Back on topic, business owners like these are why I feel it is important for us all to learn how to work on our cars as much as we can. Use a machine shop for advanced work, but do what you can on your own. Not only will it keep your costs down, but it'll give you a sense of pride once you turn that key because you'll know it was your blood, sweat and curses that led to having the car of your dreams waiting on you to drive it. |

I went there once when I was first looking for an s14, and I just moved to so cal.
They tried to sell me a zenki se but when I looked at it it was a base model, with an se badge on the trunk, with a salvaged title. the car was lacking every single amenity that makes it an se. I start looking at the other cars, and everything was tripple priced, and some poor fool just bought a car as I was leaving and the car broke down right as it left the drive way. Shady like a forrest. That is my opinion. I have heard if you are one of there friends they do good work but if you are dumb they will take you to the cleaners. |
