s14 Platinum Spark Plug Gap

I am really low on cash, but I need to change my spark plugs on my stock KA 95 Nissan 240sx engine. When I open the hood, it says that I should replace with Platinum Spark Plugs. Is it necessary to pay for the Platinum spark plugs. What will the impact be if I use regular plugs. And one last question that I wasn't able to get a definitive answer is what should I gap the platinum spark plug?

Thanks in advance.

Okay let me clear my post up a little...

1. from what i understand you dont want to gap platinum or iridium plugs because you can break the platinum or iridium coating off(just what i have heard dont quote me on it)
2. if the box says to gap them gap them, if it says pre-gapped dont gap them, and if it says nothing gap them
3. can anyone clear up the gapping iridium and platinum plugs???

sorry for the missinformation in my first post...

who says you don't gap platinum plugs? (not saying ur not right just never heard that before) also ngk plats aren't expensive, like $3-4 a plug so under $20.

That explains why I couldn't find a definite answer. Where do you buy NGK Platinum plugs only $3-$4?

NGK says to not gap them by "normal" methods...you have to us something to bend the ground electrode, WITHOUT applying force to the plug tip underneath it.

Quote:
If adjusting the gap on fine wire or precious metal plugs such as platinum or iridium be very careful not to apply any pressure or prying force to the fine wire center electrode or insulator as they can be damaged. The gap should be adjusted by only moving the ground electrode.
From: NGK Spark Plugs USA
(bottom of the 1st paragraph)

...

There is NO REASON you need to buy Platinum plugs...they just last longer, and meet the factory emissions standards.

All your Nissan motor needs is resistor type plugs...for a stock KA, buy the cheap-o copper NGK - BKR5E is the part number (it's the hotter plug, as compared to the very common BKR7E that KA-T guys like me use).

Coppers will work fine for you. No need for anything different unless your car really needs it.

do not gap them. platinum does not last as long as iridium. so just pay a little more and not worry about it
