got screwed selling my s14
well, i have been kinda selling my s14 for a while, kinda as in if the right price comes around, ill sell it but in no hurry. well i ended up finding the perfect car for me (1994 m3), and decided to accept the offer of 3500 for my car so i could have a downpayment. well, the kid i sold the car to is from ny, and was selling his other car to a kid in mass, so i drove from to ct to ma, to drop off the car, my s14 was to be his ride home, i could have been a jerk, and held firm on the price, as it was his ride home, but we ended up agreeing on 3050. he took the car for a test drive was happy for how it handled
well, i was dumb, i let the kid drive it home with my plates still on the car, he said he would mail them right away, on saturday when he got home, so i could have them on monday. i trusted him and he screwed me. he called my house house and started talking about how hes not sending the plates because the shocks are blown. if the shocks were blown, which they were NOT as the car rode great, he would have noticed in the test drive. so i got assed out. basically dont trust anybody unless you know them well, i cut this dude a great deal on an s14, 3050, and he still was out to screw me. and now its gonna cost a few hundred dollars to replace the plates and get new ones

that really sucks. I am still having a little dilema over the last car I had which I sold nearly a year ago. I let the car go for $650(very old car and just wanted to get rid of the car). And all he had was $475 because he couldn't cash his check. So he gave over the payments to his friend and his friend is going through alot of money situations. But one thing I did keep that made me fill alittle better is that I didn't give him the title until I got the rest of the money in full. Not to long ago my friend calls me up and tells me he is willing to pay for the title, because all of the stickers have expired and now the car is missing some engine parts because some people stole the parts from the car. I felt bad for the guy, but it wasn't my fault.
If I were you I will try to do something to get your plates back because that is bull****. I am sure you have something that he might need or like everybody said. It's like what is he going to do with the plates, you already reduced the price for the bastard. Oh well I know you will figure it out.

wow,why did you sell him an s14 for $3050? what condition was it in?? thats a really low price. also on the other hand. Are CT laws that much different? I thought all you had to do was sign a release of liability and bring (send) it to the department of motor vehicles (which should be attached to the title of the car). That was how I purchased and sold my car.

I learned from experience NOT TO EVER SELL YOUR CAR AND LET YOU TAGS STAY ON IT.
GladJr sold his Laurel to a Marine here. The guy wanted to pay half now and thother half in a couple of weeks. Well it was in my name as I am the sponsor. I wasn't going to let the guy drive off with a clear title and owe money. I had him get his insurrance and I let him have the car. Well the dude never was atround to get the money from. After 6 freaking weeks we finally met up with him and he decided he wanted to dicker the price down. My response was that you don't freaking test drive a car for a month and a half and THEN decide on the price!! I told him NOT to drive the car as the tags were by then expired and since they were in MY name I was responsible. I told him he could have a day or two to get his stuff out of it. As my wife and I were going to the commisary after work here comes the guy driving down the street!!! I followed him and told him that he had to give me the keys and park the car. He REFUSED to give me the keys. I told him I'd just contact PMO. He said fine...so I just pulled out my trusty cell phone and the guy vanished. He was arrested at 0300 the next morning. His commander just happened to be a friend of GladJr's. We actually had no idea about that, but the guy lost his driving priviledges for the remainder of his tour here AND we kept the money. The guy was a REAL ANAL PORE and it cost him dearly. It certainly didn't have to turn out that way. We then turned around and sold the car for what the guy owed....so we didn't rip anybody and the new owner got a really NICE car at a bargain basement price. Moral of the story... Sell to a Marine. His commander will keep him honest. |

Drive down there with a screwdriver and take your plates back. He's probably still using them because he's too lazy to go get the car registered in his name...so he'll use them until they expire. You should call the DMV and see what they can do to transfer those plates to your new car and get you replacements. Either way you are gonna have to pay for new plates because you got a new (and more expensive) car, but the issue at hand is how much of a discount the DMV would give you on the M3 plates by turning your S14 plates in? Probably not as much as you think. It's not the end of the world anyways....it's a chance for you to get some new, shiny vanity plates.
