Good Lord. Since when does an alternator use a coil? It uses a winding.
A distributor uses a coil. The alternators are the same unit for all 89-98 models, the charging stud is moved and a larger size on S14s, but bolts up fine to an S13 if you just drill the ring terminal. For your application, S13 unit on an S14, nothing is needed.

SRs also use a 90A model on later S14 engines.
OP- what happened to your friend's spare alternator?
