Possibly, it's a phenomenon in japan known as enjoukousai (en-joe-ko-sa-ee) or compensation dating. If your a cute japanese girl (and sometimes boy) you are often propositioned by older business type men to date with an extra incentive. It's like being a gold digger except its very up front.

The problem has been discussed many times and has become a real big issue in japan. Personally I believe it stems from the materilistic nature of the youth, and the aggressive branding, and exclusiveness in their popular culture. Most of the time these people use the money to buy Prada, Gucci, and Louis Vitton.

As far as initial D goes, Mogi very well might be. Sometimes (rarely) intercourse is not what you pay for. Sometimes t's like paying for a cute 17 year old escort.

Its not old i still watch alittle bit of it before i go to bed each night.

Plus they are coming out with a new stage pretty soon.

actually i heard they aren't going to animate project D (aka 4th stage). if you want to find out what happens, gotta buy the manga.

and yes, mogi is having sex with the old dude in the benz. remember when she wanted to get the swimsuit? and he said she looks cute in the skool girl outfit. mogi says, 'you've already seen everything there is to see...' thats why the manga's a bit controversial. if you read the manga there is a scene of mogi getting oral from her ex-boyfriend, and that girl who itsuki gets a crush on (forgot her name) turns out to be a regular at a hotel (hint hint). itsuki asks her to have sex before she leaves. O_O (and it seemed so pure in the anime) iketani and mako "ill give you my virginity if i can race takumi"... etc etc. its a pretty messed up manga...

Did you hear this from a reliable source? I've heard that there isn't going to be a 4th stage as you say, but I've also heard rumours that it's currently in production already.

you can never be sure with rumors but the hype for initial D has been dying over there for a long time. as anime is made for a mainstream japanese audience i would be surprised if they released another series or movie. maybe an OVA would be nice though.

as for the american release... no i am not going to buy it and i would advise all of you not to. they have toned down the 'controversial' content... like mogi's prostitution. things like these made it more socially 'real' in my opinion. but of course tokyopop didn't see it as a good thing for the US market. other things that **** me off... they changed the names of the characters. takumi = tak. itsuki = iggy. iketani = cole. natsuki = natalie. mako = maya. the list goes on. i heard they changed the names to appeal to a more import gangsta ricer whatever culture. the music is changed, they added in some 'fx' to the race scenes and they screwed with the sound of the cars trying to make them sound cooler. (authentic sounds was one of the best things about the original show) the dialogue supposedly is terrible and they added in 'yoZ' 'whaddup' etc... so 'ghe'
