Kaaz Super Q Diff

Anyone have a review of the new Kaaz super q differential?

It's supposedly suppose to be superior than the regular one (quieter, quicker & smoother engagement, longer life), but does anyone have real experience with this? is it worth the extra $200 or so?

I'm likely going to be purchasing the regular kaaz differential for $800.

if you had a bit more cash, you could probably get an ATS or OS Giken lsd.

Super Q's longer life wear and other features is probably worth it, since a rebuild will cost about $250, but i consider that a normal maintenance thing like changing your clutch/brake pads.

Here are the specs for super q

1. MINIMAL CHATTERING OPERATION
A key element in making the SUPERQ L.S.D. unique is: chattering sounds are down to a bare minimal! This makes the unit much more street and everyday friendly, AT HALF THE COST OF OTHER MORE EXPENSIVE "CARBON" L.S.D's!

2. SMOOTHER ENGAGEMENT / OVERALL OPERATION
Experience smoother engagement during driving! SuperQ units are designed to provide more comfortability without compromising performance characteristics. This new feature is available now due to new internal metal treatments processed before final assembly!

3. IMPROVED HEAT DISSIPATION
All SuperQ units have improved heat dissipation over standard LSD's. With special internal surface treatments the new SuperQ LSD offer's significant drop in operating temperatures when compared to standard metal type LSD's.

4. LONGER WEAR LIFE
Typically overhauls are recommended for race cars frequently however the SuperQ L.S.D. has a typical longer life-wear than standard mechanical L.S.D's. If changing differential oil responsibly the new SuperQ units have a average extended 20-50% more life expectancy! Whether it be usage on a full race or street applied vehicle, this new unit will outlast any standard metal type L.S.D!

5. NO BREAK-IN PROCEDURES
No need to break in your unit after installation! Another key feature for those whom install and work from home. SuperQ units have special treated clutch plates which feature smooth hardened clutch plate surfaces which require no break-in procedures!

6. MODIFIED ADJUSTABILITY AND SETUP
As standard to all KAAZ Limited Slip Differentials you can adjust locking raties to your desired spec. The SuperQ units carry same revolutionary adjustment setting options that come standard on most KAAZ Limited Slip Differentials! Optional parts are available as well, you can purchase thicker cone-springs and clutch plates to adjust initial torque specs.

I don't see how they can claim being "half the cost of carbon LSDs", because I only know of one company that sells carbon LSDs, and that's ATS/Carbonetics, and their's are around $1200 to $1300 depending on model and where you buy them from, and last I checked, the Super Q LSDs were only a hundred or so off of those prices of the carbon LSDs.

I believe the Super Q LSDs are the ones that come from Kaaz with the clutch plates that already have had the WPC treatment done to them, which makes the plates smoother and thus will last longer.

I had the SUPER Q lsd. I love it.
Quiet, no break in needed and longer lasting.
You do not hear any type of clunking noise, just the tires slipping on the pavement.

I highly recommend it.

Heres a good article:

What's the Diff?: Grassroots Motorsports Magazine Articles

I've used Nismo, KAAZ, Tomei, and OS Giken, and OS Giken is hands down the best LSD out there!! It never needs a rebuild, has true 100% locking capability, zero chatter, and linear lock up. They even told me that I only have to change fluids after every 20,000 miles!! Compared to KAAZ or Cusco recommended 5000 mile oil changes, the OS Giken is a better investment.

I have experience with the Super-Q.

I like it. Very VERY quiet, no break-in which can be a pain if you don't have a good place to do it, and obviously a well made differential.

If you have the money, do it. As many other 240sx owners will tell you, better to do it the expensive way once, than to regret it doing it cheaper the first time and doing it twice.

I don't always live by the "most expensive is always better" crap, but in my opinion, it applies sometimes. This diff offers features that most do not. The no worry hassle of having to find a way to break it in without worrying about wondering officers makes it almost worth it to me as it is. If you mess up at all on the break-in of a regular diff, you are in a big uh-oh situation.

Anyway, just a $0.02 from somebody with knowledge and experience with the SQ.

Good luck with the purcahse, and no matter what, you will be happy no matter what diff you get!

Yah, i agree with drifter M ....I just installed the super Q 1.5 on my s13. It drives like a different car. It is sooooo much easier to skid in control with this. I went from 270WHP with an open diff to the super q 1.5way. It doesnt chatter much at all, and the only time it makes the tire chirp is on a really tight u turn. No break in is a HUGE plus, cause the cops would be all over me in a minute if they saw me in the parking lot doing figure 8s. Thumbs up for the Kaaz Super Q 1.5 LSD.
