KA Engine Smoking.... please help...

Hi, I'm from new orleans, and just today I had came home from a weekend trip 2 baton rouge. I have a 1995 nissan 240sx.

well, when I got back to new orleans, I was doin over 100 mph... I noticed that my dam oil cap had fell off(prob. because of the vibration of the motor).....so i immedietely turned the car off and checked the oil. Oil was very low, soo i poured about a quart and a half of oil back into it. After a couple of mins, I then rechecked the oil. Now the level is fine. I then used some of the stpĀ® engine degreaser 2 clean up all the oil that splatted everywhere

ok now here's the problem...

When I'm at idle, ther is smoke coming out from where the exhasut manifold is...?wtf is that...

ok... at first I thought it was the left-over oil or the engine degreaser stuff being burned on the manifold.....but after driving for about 30 mins.... I thought all of that stuff would of burned off by then....

So can anybody help me out?? I've tried searching and I couldnt find anything....Could it be blown rings??

By the way.... the PERFORMANCE of the car DOESN'T feel bad or sluggish in any kind of way.... It doesnt make any ticking noises so i know it's not a bent rod (luckly..thanks god).....it feels the same as it was when I've bought the car... I dont have any kind of performance upgrades besides a bumped up timing from the distrubitor cap...(I hope this clear anything up)

p.s. It do burn oil a little bit, but I knew about that since 3 months ago and I found out that I have some bad valve stem seals...

any kind of info in detail would be truly apprieacted...

Thanks

If you lost that much oil (so much that you had really low oil levels), there could be more oil on the exhaust manifold than you'd imagine. Is there strange colored smoke coming out the tailpipe?

It could probably be a lot of oil. I will take off the exhaust manifold's heat sheild tommorrow to see if there is oil there. But there is no strange colored smoke coming out of my muffler.

Anybody else with some help please

Thanks aeontony for your reply.

If it's that bad, just turn on the car and see if you can find where the smoke is coming from. More than likely you just have left over oil that's still on the header. I was changing my oil at night with no light one day and poured some oil on the heat shield. It started smoking after a while and of course I was shitting it, but eventually it all burned away; it took a day or so because i didn't feel like cleaning it. Just give it a day or two but look around and check up on it.

definitely oil on your exhaust plumbing or heat sheild somewhere. I imagine at those speeds it probably got evrywhere, maybe on the downpipe and so on. It takes a long time for that to burn off. I get my car oilsprayed every spring and fall and that stuff takes weeks to burn off.

I change my own oil and I spilled it on the heat sheild once, it took hours to "burn" off on its own. I did it again and ran the car with the hood open and gently hosed off the manifold- the steam effect loosens the oil i think

Mine is a very well maintained 93 and I do 100 mph fairly often without incident from the engine so I wouldnt think you hurt anything in that sense.

i suggest just letting it idle for along time so it can burn completely off.
