s13 Weighed My Car Today

Just weighed my 240 fast back. We have stripped it completely except for the dash and 2 stock seats. Removed all the rubber sound deadening, seam welded some parts of the car and cut out some of the sheet metal inside.
The total weight with the stock sr20 and a full tank of gas was
2440 LBS
Please post up if anyone else has weighed their cars I want to get an idea of what they weigh stock.

Thanks
Luke

I believe there's a factory sticker on the driver side door jamb that gives you that information. It should be there above the door latch holder.

Maeda I'm doing the same thing. I just recently ditched my head liner, and have a few thoughts on losing the sunroof. How are you going to get rid of it?

weight.

Yea I thought about doing a bucket turned over but it would make for interesting drifting.
I can feel a huge difference with the reduced weight.
My plans for this weeks weight reduction are to finish cutting out the unneeded sheet metal inside the car. Finish seam welding.
remove the rear bumper support, and put another coat of paint inside.

Future plans. and estimated weight
Plexiglass rear and side rear windows. (60-75lbs)
S15 front end.
1. CF hood 20 lighter
2. Fiberglass fenders 2-3 lbs lighter than the metal s13 fenders
3. fiber glass front bumper ( about the same weight as stock)
4. s15 headlights (20lb total weight saving from popups)
5. Sparco corsa carbon seats. 20 lbs lighter for both.
6. Fuel cell. 60lb weight saving.
7. Hollow out door shells. 25 lbs
Total. 147 lbs
Car estimated weight. 2093lbs

I should have the list complete within a month, except for the s15 which is backordered for a month or so.

We weigh our cars at a local truck weghing station. It is free and is open 24 hrs.
We found it to be accurate as well by weighing ourselves on it. I was 148lbs with out the car on the scale and with me and the car on the scale there was a 2240 lb difference, and when i stepped off of the scale it showed a reduction of 148lbs. (my weight)

What sheetmetal are you cutting away? I have a fastback as well. Also when you go to a fuel cell, do you lose fuel capacity and how does it work with the fuel pump? I'v always wondered about cells, just been too lazy to really look into it.

I am cutting out the metal inside the car. From the doors back to the taillights. Basically the inner part of the sheetmetal, I also remover the rear seat supports that are welded from the fender to the strut tower to the floor.

You can purchase just about any size fuel cell you want, so capacity is up to you. You cannot use your stock fuel pump. Fuel cells have built in sumps. You can only use a in line pump.
From the cell use stainless braided line to a in line fuel pump then to the motor. Then use a stainless braided line to the cell from the motor for the return.

Cells arnt really expensive but the lines and pumps make them expensive.

I'm going to make a carbon fiber or acrylic panel to cover it, and silicon it and use metal brackets to hold it on.

Then ditch all that heavy crap!

The c/f or arcylic panel will weigh like 2-3 pounds. =D

Oh and Blu if you can get this sucker down to 2000 pounds... YOUR ARE MY HERO!

Any thoughts on how I can lighten my S14 to that extent without losing much street drivability(daily driver)? o.O

None of that metal adds structure to the car does it?

You plan on running a cage or anything in there? What else is done to the car?

Yes. Removing that sheetmetal will make the car flex more, but after the weight reduction is complete we are doing a 8 point cage, tied into the chassie, tower to tower (fr-rr).

I have only had the car about two weeks now so there is not much done to it yet. Heres the list.
1. 90 240sx fastback
2. SR20redtop
3. heat barrier coated intake manifold (had it laying around)
4. ACT 6 puck clutch
5. Aasco aluminum flywheel
6. Volk ce28n wheels 17
7. HKS super megaflow 5" filter (off of my z32s old setup)
8. KYB struts and tien springs (came with the car)

Here are the parts that are on order.
S15 front end conversion
Kaaz 2way diff
Tien HE drift spec coilovers
Cusco rear upper adj control arms
JIC hard tie rods
Suspension tech rear sway bar
Z32 brakes
Volk GTN wheels (track set)
Sparco Corsa carbon seats (black)
Sparco 3" camlock harnesses
Sparco fighter pedals
Halon 2 nozzle fire system
Greddy turbo extension
JIC turbo manifold
S15 turbo
HKS hi power exhaust
Greddy turbo extension
HKS down pipe
HKS SSQV bov
Border fuel rail
SARD 550cc injectors
Greddy VSPL intercooler
Greddy emanage with injector and ignition harnesses
Greddy EO-1 boost controller
255lph fuel pump
Apexi el series guages
and bla bla bla...

Anyways No its not my daily driver.
As for lightening your s14 I dont know much you could do without making it noisy inside.
Here are some.
remove ac. remove bumper reinforcments. Gutt the back half of the car.
Finish scraping the rest of the rubber crap off of the floor.

Luke

That list is more than I have, and I have had my car for almost 6 months. Also, I am a struggling student.

a note on your wheel choice:
CE28N are, afaik, Volk's lightest wheels.
GT-Ns, while looking better, are apparently significantly heavier, though. I'd consider using the CE28s on track and the GT-Ns for street.

Also, i hope you're an *extremely* safe and conservaiteve driver on public roads, because a car without bumper reinforcements is significantly more prone to serious damage than one with supports... unfortunately, I found this out first hand. Consider just cutting out some of the front support rather than losing it altogether; after all, you don't want that V-SPL to explode upon a 5mph front impact caused by some small patch of sand coming up to a traffic light!

BTW Good luck with the car -- I'd be very interested to see what it looks like both during your build-up process and when it's finished.

I would think since you're spending that much money, you wouldn't cheap out on coilovers. If I were you I would go for something with an inverted chock and aluminum shock body. It's not like it's going to make much of a dent in your pocket when you're buying all this stuff at the same damn time.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Tein HEs... they may not quite be Apex N1 Type Pros, but they're certainly going to provide better dampening than what he has right now.
What were you thinking along the lines of? Custom Bilstein double-dampening adjustable Dampers with custom H&R springs?

I have used a few different setups in the past and have found the He's to suit my driving preferences best. You are right about the wheels but the GT-n\s are cheaper + I will prob use both at the track. Also I am a very safe driver on the street and only street drift on snow pass and hwy 9 late at night. Go slow on the straights and fast in the corners is what I like to do. Save it for the track as much as possible.
Anyways. I would like to post some pics asap. the only prob is I dont know how to post them.
If anyone knows how please let me know.
Thanks Luke.

Ohh yea. Does anyone want plexiglass parts. I get a big discount if i buy in bulk.
Same with carbon but the cat and resin is bank.

I will weigh mine pretty damn soon and revert back with the results. Mine is an 89 Coupe fully stripped, all sound deadening removed, along with all rear panels. I only have 2 door panels and shell of a dashboard, dashboard is stripped to the fullest, the only thing that remains is the cluster. If the car weighs in at 2500 it would be perfect.. we'll see..

nothing wrong w/ HEs
lots of people use them
its not the coilovers that make the driver
i can put n1 pro on mine and still suck if i dont have skill
i know quite a fwe guys wh use them and would kick someones ass who has N1 pro

n1 pro is not the same style setup as HEs
different type of coilover for different applications

top of the line would be like advance design or ohlins compression and rebound adjust

Can you use stock bumpers without the heavy steel reinforcements? I was considering leaving them in but swiss-cheesing them. Weight removed that far from the car's Center of Mass helps twice.

As for stock, listed weight, don't believe it. Only trust a scale.

No prob. The weight station is over by san jose airport. Right off of de la cruz. If you come to the fat car meet we will be going to the same place.

next step, do the little things... lighter lug nuts, titanium exhaust, changing bolts for zipties where possible, changing bolts for lighter bolts, JDM bumper support is also lighter, and shave all the hair on your body!

You guys ARE hardcore. I took my seat out two weeks ago to get it measured for my rollcage and the sound of the road in conjunction with my whining fuel pump is driving me insane. My goals are to make my s14 an extremely agressive racer while retaining all the luxuries of my fully loaded SE (and possibly some more sound deadening). I give you guys mad props for being able to put up without everything though
