Quick question about REMOVAL of upper timing chain (not that bloody sound!)
Well, damn NICO is down, so I'm posting here...
I think I might be replacing my upper timing chain soon, because 2 of the links weren't in that good of shape. Anyway, the FSM I have gives instructions as to how to remove the upper and lower chain...a VERY involved process. I only want to remove the upper chain. For those of you who HAVE REMOVED YOUR UPPER TIMING CHAIN, here's my question: Once the valve cover is off and the 2 cam sprockets are unbolted from the camshafts and the cam sprocket cover is off, will there be enough slack in the upper timing chain to just slip it off the idler sprocket, or is it a lot more of an involved process than this? Thanks...

If you pull off either sprocket and pull it off the cam, you will have more than enough play to fiddle with the chain..just make sure that the bottom timing chain doesn't jump or things will go very wrong
