SR S14 SR20 Intercooler Pipe Configurations

Alright so AFTER searching I'm still left wondering if the 'mod' I just did to my 240 is something that will lead to future headaches or if it's the best 'mod' I've ever done..

So.. after recently taking my 240 to a Nissan dealer to have a clutch installed (S14 SR20) the mechanic working on my car (who seemed to be knowledgable about SRs in particular) pointed out that a lot of people eliminate the pipe that was going from my FMIC Cold Pipe to my Intake. This is something that I had noticed, but never knew why people did it or if it really served any purpose in the first place..

Well after some consideration I decided to eliminate the pipe and block off the extension from my Cold Pipe and Intake. Get back in my car and seems to run just like it always has. Then I took it out to test drive it... first of all I DD my 240 so it's very conservative (I had the boost set at around 8psi), but without touching the boost controller I noticed a significant reduction in turbo-lag and my boost gauge shot up to 10psi as my car shot forward faster than it had ever before. Noticing the boost I backed off so as not to upset my 'stock' fuel system (stock injectors, maf, ecu, walbro 255).

Now finally my question:

Is it safe to run my intercooler pipe like this? Should I just turn the boost down and enjoy my newly discovered response in my SR? Thoughts?

I also noticed my HKS bov sounded much different.. it became more audible and fluttered slightly (which it had never done before).

Thanks for any help, and feel free to share any of your cold pipe setups so we can compare.
