How to tell specific years for s13?
Well sorry if this has been covered before, but here it goes anyway.
Is there a way to tell the different years of the s13 besides the '89-'90 and the '91+ bumpers? ie if its a '89 or '90; '91 '93 '93... |

The vin plate int he door has the year it was built Add a year to that in most cases and you go it.
Otherwise prolly some color differences, not sure if 89-90 had any differences, but I think 91-93 did. Otherwise I am not to sure. What would you need to know for? If its important just match vin plates with the ones on the engine, dash and in the door.

He's right about the VIN plate.
Also, The 89-90 had a different front bumper (or grill?). It's referred to as a "pignose". Also, the 89-90 had a SOHC engine (single cam). (KA24E engine) The 91-93 had a smoother front bumper (no pignose). It also gas the DOHC engine (KA24DE). The 95-96 has the zenki head lights. (KA24DE engine) The 97-98 has the more aggressive looking headlights with different tail lights (stripe-design) (KA24DE engine) I'm sure I'm missing some things, but that's all I can think of at the moment |

Looks like you know about the bumpers. There is also the engine which was covered. And there is the floor interior. The 91+ had a different material which was "smoother". The 89-90 had shaggy. Most people will probably not change their carpet so that can probably help. Also the steering wheels were different. The 89-90 just had the word "Nissan" on the center. The 91+ had the Nissan Emblem in the center. That is all I noticed. There may be more.

you're wrong. :-D
BTW, model year can be determined by two means: look at emissions tag on underside of hood. find production date. if 06/88 - 05/89 it's an '89 if 06/89 - 05/90 it's a '90! and so on. Japan cars are dated by production date. You can buy '94 S13 Silvias as well as '94 S14 Silvias. |

good looking out mastalee, nobody usually sees that carpet difference. tight.
here's other things too, that were on the s13- the 89 thru early 91 had those "racing buckets". looks like bucket seats, without the removal headrest. very uncomfortable. 89-90 SE/LE had teardrop rims while the 91+ SE/LE had thos nice 7 spoke rims. the basemodels also had different wheel covers and different design on the steelies. the muffler is different right? (i seen lots of different ugly ones). only 89-90 had two tone colors. *sigh* the guage cluster on the 89/90 is different from the 91+. at least the speedo is. i think the zenki has 115mph and the chuki has 110. i dont know why. i think the stock radio is different too. im not sure... i've seen different ugly ones too. if we go motors, theres a bunch more differences. but i dont wanna cover that. but here's a quick helpie. if i says ECCS anywhere on the motor, its an 89/90. if the valve cover is slightly golden, or doesnt say ECCS, its a 91+. -mixedwell (if im wrong, keep it to yourself)

I do believe he wants to know the diff b/w 89-90s (zenkis)
And different 91-93s (chukis). P.S.I like the buckets, they are comfy, but I got S14s now. And 2-tone Chukis would look fugly, only works on the silvia fronts and Pignose fronts (since they are generally the same).

89-90 didnt have retractable 3-pt REAR seatbelts, they had the kind you would latch together and manually adjust.. very sloppy (thank god those were removed).
89-90 had different interior colors than 91-93 and the actual pattern to the fabric was slightly different. The doo doo brown interior found on the 89-90 had a darker colored brown carpet, the 91-93 had a light tan carpet. Wheels were also changed from swiss-cheese wheels to teardrop style wheels, right? Besides having different bumpers, lets not forget the different signals, foglights, and lower lips. - Mike |

And a 91-93. And the Teardrops were the ones you refer to as swiss cheese (89-90), 7 spokes were the Chuki wheels that look like escort wheels.
