I'm glad the california legal system is so in the shitter these days.

My ref ticket was a letter saying, here's you fine, if you want to contest this in court you need to pass the state ref tests and wait until december to find out if we even have room for you in the court.

otherwise pay this fee and be done with it.

when'd you get your tic? that was the situation with all of my friends and shop guys but for whatever reason my ref ticket was followed by a "MANDATORY COURT APPEARANCE" letter which proceeded to the judge saying "you can't drive an illegal car on the road" and gave me the option to forfeit the car, lose my license or go get it reffed. . .

i guess i could've sold the car out of state and bought it back. . . but i got scurred and stock ka-ed the car. . . so seriously. . . there's like no legal turbo options for the ka????

no legal kit for the KA, im sure it can be done if greddy or someone did all the R&D, plus $$$ to make it "environmental friendly"....so basically a short answer is no....wont see it happening anytimes soon, plus that kit is like at least like 7 years old now, if they havent done it by now........then.......you know where im goin with that lol....

you live in anaheim/orange so they're gay. I live in overpopulated LA. Mine said mandatory court appearance too and then they sent me that bs letter like "ah no court appearance necessary sign up online handle the ticket and be done with it."

Doesnt it make sense that turbocharging a non-turbo car would be illegal...?

It was not the fact that the kit was not green or environmentally friendly. In fact it would have smogged. The problem was the California Air Resources Board aka C.A.R.B wanted a 10k a year fee from Greddy to get the official sticker on the kit. Greddy figured they could not sell enough of the kits to warrant that kind of cash outlay so they did not bother.

Now on the S2K it was a no brainer . New car, people that buy it have cash to spend might want to turbo it and get more power.

From what I understood, it was only the kit for the S14 KA that every recieved a CARB EO, not any dual-cam KA. So, to TECHNICALLY get your S13 a legal turbo, you would have to equip it with an S14 KA, get it certified by a REF, THEN you could put the Greddy turbo on it legally.

Greddy NEVER made a carb legal kit for any 240. the kit was carb pending. But never carb approved.

This information is old as dirt. Probably known before s15's even existed.

Maybe, but a cops job is to enforce the law, not to know the law. That task falls to people in legal departments and court rooms.

I'd love to see a compiled list of all the states that are 'enthusiast friendly' (dont do emissions / let you tag anything with wheels) but I'm too lazy to make it or look real hard to find it. For now at least I'll settle for being happy that MD got rid of the rollers at emissions stations so its only idle tests for OBD1 cars from here on out.

wow thanks for the facts, I didnt know that. thats pretty crazy info, that kit (msrp 3600) was pricey too especially for not even having an intercooler as part of the kit (it had to be purchased seperate and was like 8 or $900)...yeah s2ks are a different market, I one had a 00 AP1 and mast parts are expensive for those platforms.
