And it was only a COUPLE OF KIDS! MORE THAN THAN 20 TIMES THIS NUMBER OF PEOPLE DIE EACH YEAR BECAUSE OF FUCKING PEANUT ALLERGIES, so lets ban all peanuts/allergy producing products to keep people safe while we are at it.

And yes. The caffeine in the first one makes you not feel the effects until later, at which point you might have already consumed more. So when it hits you, you might already by drunk.

But my point is, this is personal responsibility. I can legally buy some cheap ass vodka and 5 hour energy drinks and mix them and have a combination 10times more dangerous than a 4 loko....so is the government gonna ban them too???

I still can't understand why the fuck Americans - some of the most privileged, spoiled, and pampered persons in the entire world -are so fixated with owning assault rifles and "defending der freedoms from evil commies/the king of england/zombies!".(eventhough I like guns)

But I still oppose banning these products just because someone, somewhere, abused it and was harmed as a result.

i agree dont be stupid about it, and yea that was my redline and vodka comment, you can do much worse but kids are dumb these days and have no control or common sense, and sense i dont drink 4 lokos i could really care less.

placing a more "menacing" label on 4lokos wouldnt do anything. its popular, available and most importantly, cheap as hell. i dont think that your comparison with cigarettes is applicable, cigarettes dont impair your ability to do anything plus it isnt like everyone at a party is smoking and peer pressuring you to have a stog like at a college party (where this is happening for the most part) compared to alcohol. comparing peanut allergy deaths to alcohol related deaths is not comparable either; peanuts are a natural and in large part, a safe to consume substance. by chance there are people that have severe allergies to them and subsequently die as a result of mistaken consumption. you wouldnt ban peanuts because BILLIONS more people are not allergic to them and there are no negative consequences of consuming them.

4lokos could be banned because they are harming and being consumed by underaged drinkers by and large which is both illegal and dangerous not only to the drinker but for others around them. obviously you can purchase alcohol legally (im assuming) and you are free to buy 5 hour energies and popov if you really want to but the group that is most effected by these drinks are 18 and 19 year olds who havent had as much experience with alcohol as you have (again assuming). if hypothetically you did mix popov and 5 hour energy and made some crazy drink you would know what youre getting yourself into and it would probably taste terrible. the whole point of 4lokos is that it tastes GOOD and you wont taste the alcohol. you could tell whoever is drinking them, this drink is bad for you and will make you sick, etc, but when an underaged and new drinker has that fruity non alcoholic taste hit their lips and they dont feel the effects of the alcohol immediately, ill bet they would go for another one and when they do feel it theyre not gonna remember much the next day.


i agree with you that whoever is drinking this has the personal responsibility to keep under control but what im reading is that they lose that when all the sugars/caffeine/etc hits them and they think theyre okay and im sure thats not hard to imagine with...600+ calories, the equivalent of two cups of coffee worth of caffeine and god knows how much sugar in them.

You make some good points and I appreciate your ability to discuss in a reasonable way...specially in Zilvia lol.

But I don't know how you can say that "by and large" they are being consumed by underage drinkers since as far as I know no study or survey has been done to show this.
And this is still the U.S.A, meaning its not *that* easy for underage kids to get drinks.

Just because some underage kids drink 4loko, it means that adult U.S citizens who want to drink them should be prohibited from doing so? Thats my main problem with the ban. You could use the argument that "it is doing more harm than good" and ban a number of alcoholic beverages, or prevent bartenders from fixing certain cocktails which are sure to fuck you up real good, or ban those 40oz malt liquors, or outright ban cigarettes, etc.

Like someone else mentioned, the whole banning campaign is absolutely reactionary. Its the same mentality that ushered in Prohibition in the first place.

seriously, if i drink two of these under an hour, i am usually drunk for atleast 3hours. i rather spend $3 to get me buzzed than spend $40 to get me at the same level. earlier this year, my friends and i went to a another friend's birthday event at a club in frisko. between 5 people, we had 3 4lokos and a bottle of hennessey priviledge and that night, was a night i still remember this day. too much fun that night, and the girls were gone.

i agree, i remember my freshmen year, i was pounding a bottle of cisco before the school dance (yea, when they were fun back then, lol). i was lucky that my school was in walking distance, so my friends and i would be drinking on our way there. a couple of my friends that drink this are "light weight," so they usually share a can and be fucked up. if i plan on going out this weekend, i'll probably grab a can to get my night started.

That is because of the caffeine. If it was the same drink without the caffeine, you would feel way more buzzed. The caffeine prevents you from feeling the effects of the alcohol, even though the alcohol is in your bloodstream. So people drink even more alcohol to get the same level of buzz, and as a consequence, have a much higher risk of getting alcohol poisoning.

this drink is a 24oz can and is 12% alcohol. That means that one can has as much alcohol as 5 beers.
