Social Security number theft
Ok so my bros car was parked outside over night. I don't live in the ghetto or anything nice neighborhood, but i live really close to a high school so stupid kids come and go. My bros car has always been parked outside for a few months. just last Saturday night, my bros integra got broken into. Nothing was broken just he lost his cheap deck, fake ass fading painted type R shift knob , cd wallet and his back pack with some school stuff in it.
anyyways, his back pack had his social securitty number in one of his school transcripts. What can the thieves do if they got a hold of his SSN? we are kinda worried, just in case something happens. What should we do about it, if we CAN do something about it? |

everybody and their mom knows my social security number i dont think it is something to be paranoid about. unless you guys wash your hands after touching something thats not yours everytime....i mean if you want to keep your hands clean dont go outside.....i dont think anything will happen.....college used to use your social security number for your school id and it was used everyday and alot of people could get it if they wanted to ....But they did change it because people complained so i guess maybe they can do something with your ssn....i doubt it tho...really, if they didnt steal the car....why would they steal a ssn....you know...

They can sell it to some Mexican that just crossed the border and there will be two (your brother's name here) and they can screw up your credit. My dad and i share the same name except my middle name, Xavier, and different SSN but my credit apeared on his when he recently got a credit report for his new house. Wiered to me, i would be really worried if i was your brother.

if a theif is really smart they can use your SS# to access your bank account and register to vote (horrors) among other things... on one hand, it would be a big deal if that happened.
on the other hand, if they are motivated enough to do all that they would probably just steal everyone's mail since a whole lot of medical bills, paychecks, etc have your SS# on them. really not that much you can do about it now anyway. just keep an eye on your credit for a while. |

I can go on westlaw and find out anything about anyone if I wanted to... with your name and your location I could probably find your SS, and with that I could get address, phone number, employers, medical information, any arrests/convictions... not to mention your race, your family...
its scary what you can do online. But westlaw is expensive and I will assume petty theives don't have access to it. |

this is mildly related:
if you really wanna have fun fuckin with someone...just get a program like this one (this is a much less "hacker" program then some but i didn't wanna post those): http://www.jasooz.com/features.htm generally marketed to parents or employers...but good for use on suspected cheating g/f's and the like...basically you can track anything someone does online...they send an email it is copied and sent to you as well...all the websites they go to...passwords they enter...pretty crazy stuff...it's called "Trojan" software...pretty cool.. |

here ya go....Call the credit bureaus...ALL OF THEM there are 3. Report his SS # stolen, and place a FRAUD ALERT on the #. My moms was stolen and they tried to collect unemployment from it. They gave her a password to use for her credit everytime she needs to use it...for houses, cars, credit cards.
Call the police in your area. They MUST fill out a report and give you a copy.(PC530.6) You will need it later. If they try to open any fradulent accounts, write the creditors and tell the this is an ID theft. They also MUST provide, upon written request, all copies of applications, and transactions on the account along with their information. (not all theives are smart, some will put their REAL address). here are the credit agencies and their #'s Trans Union 800-888-4213, www.tuc.com, fraud division 800-680-7289 Experian 888-EXPERIAN, www.experian.com, fraud div. 888-397-3742 Equifax 800-685-1111, www.equifax.com, fraud div 800-525-6285 hope that helps you out some. DON'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you get everyting filed to protect your brother. Also, have him check his Social Security often, check to see if anyone is trying to work off of his SS#. Good luck! (BTW, I got all of this info from my old OIC, he was really anal about idenity theft)
