avalon racing's forged pistons?
I found some 9.0:1 compression forged pistons with rings for $220.00 at www.avalonracing.net. Has anyone on this forum had any experience with there pistons? I can get some 8.5:1 Ross pistons for $525 shipped, or weisco 9.0:1 forged pistons with chrome moly coated skirts for around $450, and they both come with a chrome plated steel rings, piston pins and hardware, but if avalon racing pistons are comparable strenght wise I would rather save some $$$. I E-mailed them about there pistons ring land design, but they have not awnsered my q's yet. Any advice regarding pistons, rings, and bearings would be appreciated. I would like to run 9.0:1 compression to keep hp numbers up at low RPM's (when the turbo is not creating boost), and I would like to run 12 to 15psi as a daily driver. Can I safely run that amount of boost on pump gas? (fuel management will be a JWT cobra maf, 4 bar system, w/50lb injectors, and the engine internals will also be able to withstand that level of boost)

yes, especially with the 9:1 pistons. hell with jwt ecu you could probably run 12 psi stock.
I can't find those pistons (or any 240 parts) on avalon's website, but I'm defintely interested in checking them out. |

The pistons I found were for a ka24de out of an altima, I E-mailed avalonracing to see if they had some pistons for my aplication, and they replied and told me the pistons for my application are a 9.0:1 compression ratio. I'am going to call them on monday to find out what type of rings they use, what rod lenght should be used, and find out if the ring lands are lowered, and widened like all the other quality pistons on the market. If you want to see the pistons for yourself use the search mode at there web site, and type "ka24de pistons" that will take you right to them. By the way my application is a 91 ka24de 240sx.

No, the qoute they gave me was $135 for the pistons, and $127 for the ring set. I do not think they come with piston pins and hardware though, that might be why they are soo cheap, but how expensive can piston pins be?
