Need Engine Management Help Please!!

I have already done several searches and haven't been able to get answers so please help if you can.

I am installing a '96 KA24DE motor in my '69 Datsun roadster. The engine is almost rebuilt and I am wondering what components I can get rid of. I am not going to have a check engine light so I don't care if the ecu throws codes as long as the car runs good. I don't need to worry about smog and so I would like to get rid of the egr and all the smog stuff and all of the non-essential sensors and components. I don't have an ecu yet and so I am wondering what years are interchangeable (95-98?). I have seen posts where you can use one from an automatic but you may have some hard starting issues. Why would this be?

If anyone could give me some advice on what engine stuff I have to keep and what I can get rid of to save weight and also what ecu's will work with my setup I would really appreciate it. If these are dumb questions please be gentle on me.

Thanks,

Corey

PS. Since starting this project I have discovered how cool that SR swap into the 240 is. That is definately going to be my next project.

Hmm...if your trying to get rid of all the emissions stuff...id suggest calling Jim Wolf Technology. They might be able to re-program you an ECU to get rid of all that stuff. As for the ECU...it wont really matter if your gonna re-program it. But if not, Id say 96 and up since your dealing with a OBD-II ECU. 95 and lower are OBD-I.

I would find most of this information incorrect. Jim Wolf can only program '96, since it's OBD-II v.1. What I would do, and probably will do to my car, is switch the few pins to run a '95 ecu with a '96 engine. That eliminates some emissions control stuff, and a few codes. JWT can't touch '97-'98, nor would you want to repin those ecus to work in your '96.
