Car runs but stalls when stopped!

I have an 89 240sx with a single cam KA (auto trans). Car turns on when I turn the key but turns off right away. In order to drive the car, I have to constantly shift from drive to neutral. In other words force it on by stepping on the gas constantly. When I'm coming to a stop or even let go of the gas, the car turns off whether I'm in motion or not.
Possible problem/solution?
Thnx in advance!

Thnx. I'll take a look at it ASAP. It has a few vacuum leaks but it has always had a rough idle before I had this problem. Sometimes it would be at about 500rpm then go up to about +1k then back down to around 500 and eventually just down to turning off

Sounds like a huge Vac problem to me. Could also be the MAF.

Fix the the vac problems first. Always fix the known isues and don't try to work around them.

It lags on acceleration a bit. B4 this problem I had the vacuum leaks fixed but it still idled rough. Should I replace all the vacuum lines? Ive had the car for almost a year. Little by little it started givig me problems. Owner b4 me replaced the engine and did a poor job at putting it back correctly

could be your maf. buy some maf cleaner and go to town.

p.s. autozone didn't know what maf was. so if you tell them MASS AIR FLOW sensor cleaner....then they'll know.

also check your plugs..make sure they are clean and gapped correctly.

p.s2. where are you located. I have a buddy that owns a shop in mission viejo that knows their shit. Super cheap too. Like not performance shop prices at all, but neighbors doing it for me prices. hahaha.

I'll go check that out and try to clean the plugs. I'm located in Pico Rivera. Should I just put up with it for as long as I can, the go with an SR or RB swap? That has been my plan since the start but I don't want to keep putting money into it.

Go for the SR Swap. More parts/money for the RB. Unless money is no problem.

I had a similar problem with my 540 6 speed. Car would drive fine but on stop signs, stop signs or whenever id come to a stop and revs dropped, the car would stall. Sometimes on start ups unless i gave it some gas. My car also idled like shit. It would rock side to side horribly. My car had a huge vacuum leak from the ccv. I changed it out and it fixed the problem. My guess is you have a huge vacuum leak somewhere.
