I don't know that its all the rage, its more of just a "retro" look. A throwback to like 2001.
When I first started taking interest in 240s and drifting (10 yrs ago) I was running 15" bbs mesh on my 4 lug s14.
We didn't have anyone selling good style kits back then, and 17's were about as big as most people went on wheels, so it was just slammed with a front lip or something.

Its just nostalgic for me, a reminder of a simpler more fun time.
