Diy: Installed Nrg Grounding kit mod and Hotwire ignition Mod on 240sx
This weekend i did some mods to my car. I thought i would do a little review on these stuff to let you guys know if they even do anything. It was the Nrg Universal grounding kit that you can get online for about $50 and the hotwiring ignition mod is just the materials needed to splice the wires together.
First off the Nrg Grounding kit was very simple and i put it together in 30 mins. Basically it just adds ground wires to the battery to help it charge and theoretically improve your electrical system by allowing it flow better with more ground points. It says it would improve idle, electrical stuff and all that junk. IMO it barely improved at all. Maybe its because i have good ground points already but adding 6 more ground points did not really do much. So that concludes that getting a grounding kit is a waste of money. If you need more than one ground point just make it yourself. Now about the hotwire ignition mod, This is the cheapest and most beneficial mod to do to improve your throttle response. By putting a relay between the ignition coil power wire, your sending 12v straight from the battery to the ignition coil. This gives a constant spark all the time which is really good if your getting less than 12volts on your ignition coil. I received better and snappier throttle response and even better idle. here are some pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So if you cant afford getting a msd ignition system, i would recommend doing the ignition hotwiring mod. |

A grounding kit is not a waste of money on a rusting corroded car. It all depends on what you are doing, and what climate you live in.

Great stuff. I'll buy 1000 feet of wire from home depot for $10 and wire up 100 cars, or maybe I'll put 1000 feet of wiring inside 1 car to unleash 200whp by charging up electron flow from Alternator to Battery.
Seriously, why would battery matter?????? Doesn't power come from Alternator when car is running which is direct ground through the housing of alternator to engine. Loops and loops of unnecessary wires. Had to write this out. Seeing cars like this angers the shit out of me. Just wanna rip all that shit out and melt it into a turbo or super charger. |

that ground kit looks terrible...and really tacky.
the ignition mod works fine, though. I did it to my hatch and it smoothed out the idle and helped with engine response noticeably. But all that means is that I had some crusty wiring, I would guess = / |

Anyone that's ever been into Car Audio knows the value of good grounds, it's not about MAKING more power or sound, it's about KEEPING your power or sound...
A loose or corroded ground or grounds will stop your engine from functioning properly, thus LOOSING power. Thus, the Ground Kit is NOT a waste of money, it's cheap insurance against a single ground becoming loose or corroded... although, i do agree, it could have been implemented a little less tacky ![]() |
