Thud sound when shifting?

I have my 300zx that when ever I shift it sounds like the tranny box or something makes a loud thud noise, It doesn't jam and I'm not forcing the gear in , i don't know what I could be? I doubt it's the clutch, so any suggestions? Or are other 300's the same way with their transmition?

Could also be that the differential has a significant amount of wear.

I have this same problem. Started happening right after I installed my S15 HLSD. I haven't really looked into it yet as I have the car on jackstands again. But I think it's that I needed to reshim my LSD after I put it in OR that my diff mounting bolts weren't torqued down right as I remember tightening the diff bolts down while the diff was in the air instead of resting on the subframe.

Jack up your car. Put a wrench into your right hand and start tightening anything that is loose and check for blown bushings. No one can tell you a price for something you haven't diagnosed. Grow some man hair, get dirty, and figure it out....

Just out of curiosity, could this be fixed with subframe collars?

I have a clunk in the rear of my S13 every time I make a hard turn and I'm pretty sure it's blown subframe bushings. Anybody ever tried this as a fix?

For reference: DIF 10039 Aluminum Subframe Spacers Collars Kit S13 S14 240SX

Sorry for thread jack, it just reminded me of it.

Same here. I thought I shimmed right, but I guess not. It's only the very first shift out of my garage. After that it never makes a noise. A friend of mine also swapped his diff with s15 HLSD and his makes noise all the time.
