![]() Wtf. I'm freaked out right now. I just came from school 20 minutes ago. I live on a small court with 6-7 houses. My family was deep asleep upstairs, and its verrry quiet on my street. I stopped in front of the driveway and put all my books and crap into my bag. Before I can even get on the driveway ( their 3 doors,im going for the center), the door opens by itself. My garage remote is attached securely above me, and I never touched it. I parked inside and closed it, and theirs no way someone came downstairs, presses the button, and went back up that quick.
I don't why, but I'm getting the feeling that someone somehow got the code and programmed it to another remote, and that their were watching me to test it, so that they can steal the car when me and the family are away. Should I be worried or am I just really high. |

If your remote-controlled garage door was not installed yesterday, then chances are it is not secure.
If people can hack into computers with all of today's sophisticated security, then I imagine hacking dinosaur technology such as a garage door remote is babytown frolics. There are even guides on how to do it online. And the older the system, the easier it is. Even when it comes to the most recently installed systems, I would assume the installer and door companies have ways and backdoors to open them, which I am sure could easily fall into the wrong hands. Now that I am done scaring you, garage doors kind of suck and they also malfunction all the time. Ours has opened by itself before. Or was it by itself? Who knows... |

Not gonna lie, I would freak the fuck out too. In all honesty, id disconnect the power from the door opener and padlock that shit. Maybe even invest in a super soaker |

For starters, there's almost an infinite number of codes, and they do not go in order. Secondly, the opener requires 2 criteria to be met before "accepting" the code - It's looking for the next "rolling code" in line, WITH the matching opener code. So it's very, very hard to "clone" a signal from a newer garage door opener. ... That said, just go delete all the codes, and reprogram!!! The same button you use to program a remote (button on the opener/motor itself) - If you hold it down for 6 or more seconds (in most cases)...it will delete ALL codes that are stored. Then, start over by reprogramming each remote and/or car...one by one. That way, you know exactly what openers will work. I do this in all my rental homes when people move out, and when a buy a new home. EDIT: Search online for how to reset your opener. Guarantee you'll find how to do it. - Brian

No comprendo what the problem is. Does the garage door not have a locking latch? (All garage doors do - ask your parents). Lock the garage door. If you're still paranoid, reset and reprogram your remotes and external pad (it's easy). Disconnecting the power to the garage door opener is not even necessary. No one is going to purposely tip off that they have a way of opening a garage door.

Disconnect the garage door when you leave if your paranoid, I would just be more concerned that someone could easily get into the house.

/\ Typically most houses have a door with a lock into the garage. If someone's going to break in when you aren't there it doesn't matter what you do. They're going to get in.
