LSD question
I have two 97's: one with ABS and LSD and one with open differential. If I switch the LSD's will the ABS function correctly or does the VLSD have something to do with the ABS, witch I think it does cause there is a plug on the VLSD right?

The ABS driveshaft is supposed to be a little shorter....and as far as internals.... i know that for Nismo LSD.... there are two different kits....one for 240's with oem lsd and a different one for 240's without oem lsd..... So the internals might be different..... plus, if you are gonna go through the trouble of swapping the internals of your pumpkin.... might as well upgrade to the Nismo 1.5/2way LSD... Just my opinion...

Yes...you have to unbolt the old VLSD internals fromthe ring gear, swap the uits, and bolt everything back up. Do not, I repeat...DO NOT just pull out the ring gear + VLSD and move it to the other diff...you have to keep the ring gear with the diff it came from, as well as the shims, etc...it's a delicate thing. Otherwise you have to do the backlash, and all kinds of other measuring you don;t want to worry about.
As long as ALL you change is the VLSD for the open part, you'll be allright. And the output shafts stay with the VLSD... And the rear gasket...use high temp RTV. And you'll need air tools...BTW. - Brian |
