AC belt needed or not?
I was messing with my car (just bought) I noticed the AC belt isnt on the ac compressor. Do I need to put that belt back on or is it ok without it?
Edit: also this is whats got my questioning it. I know its ok without a belt but I can move the compressor up and down an inch or so. Thats whats got me worried. is that normal if you go beltless? |

Yep- perfectly normal. The AC compressor just sits in there loosely and is held in place by the magneto effect via the hypermatic flux capacitor.

In the future the speed limit is 85mph, so if your flux capacitor activates at 83mph, you'd time travel on your way to McDaniel's<---formerly known as McDonald's.

Yeah, NO...
The A/C belt is tensioned by a tensioner pulley, NOT by moving the compressor. Even if it was tensioned by moving the compressor the bolts should STILL be tight and the compressor should STILL not move. You should not be a dumbass (anymore) either... ![]() |
