s13 How much TQ can a stock S13 hold???

So I'm trying to find out what is the maximum torque that a S13 can handle without putting in a Roll cage???... I've been looking around on google and also some shops and most say different numbers. I'm reading and hearing 450- 500lb/tq... Anything past that the chassis starts to twist. Is this true??

I'm only asking this because I'm currently dropping a LS2 in my S13 and I'm planning on building the motor within time...

All your answers would be highly appreciated!!!

If your going to be a douche then I'll just ignore your comment!!!

uhhhhh. i've personally never heard of someone tweaking the frame on an s-chassis from having too much torque. normally its from smashing into a k-rail.

lemme put it this way, how many 500hp+ s-chassis are there, and how many times have you seen someone complain about twisting their frame due to torque?

Yea I hear ya on that but I'm saying without a roll cage?? Plus not sure if I've seen many S-chassis that have over 600 lb/tq... Anytime I've heard of a s-chassis over 600 torque they brace the shit out of them and pop in a roll cage... I'm just wondering if it'll twist because I still plan on keeping my interior...

There's a reason for that.

A tin can of a chassis with 600 lbs/ft of torque and no cage? Sounds familiar...

Been nice knowing you, man.

at that level of hp i would recommend a cage for personal protection more than chassis rigidity

A cage on a street car is not ideal especially if its not extremely tight to the body, since its near your head. Even still its dangerous, since you wont be driving on the street with a helmet now.

I also dont understand why having 600 tq makes anyone think u need a cage for personal protection. Shit, I can crash a 150hp civic doing 100+ so do i need a cage in that?

I personally would do a rollbar if anything.

I guess this thread may help stiffen things up if you wanna avoid a full cage.

Well after I do over 600 torque I plan on getting a cage. I just want to know what is the max torque the s-chassis can handle. Also thanks to all the guys with the info.
I'm just a bit eh with it bc I want to keep my interior unless there are cages that allow me keep my rear seats and panels...

What are your plans with the car, just a street car with 600/lbs of torque? Or is it going to be drifted or dragged or road raced.

Just seems like a lot of HP/TQ for an S13 or S chassis for that matter.

You could buy a bolt-in cage and cut holes into your plastics to give it a "complete" interior feel. The best part about our cars is the abundance of parts! So practice on plastics from a junk yard if you don't want to ruin your own.

Never heard of the s-chassis twisting from making too much torque. Most people that put down big power have roll cages because they race their car in some fashion and need one for safety, not because the chassis can't handle it.

Why don't you just do a cage and keep interior? The back seats will probably be useless, but they pretty much are anyways. Here's a picture of Ash's (smashed's) car from his blog. Doesn't look like the cage is too much of a hassle.

As others have stated, if it's a street car, get some padding for the bars around your head unless you plan on wearing a helmet all the time.

It's more of a thing you would do if your car had an actual chassis and not a uni-body.

A uni-body is more rigid than the typical body on frame style chassis.
