hatch release / gas release cable (s) I SEARCHED

ok guys i searched this already but i didnt seem to come up with anything useful to my question, all of them seemed to be people with cables that fell off. my gas tank and hatch have always been hard to pop since i got the car. If i want to pop my hatch i have to pull the lever and wedge something under it to keep the thing up. It only seems to release at the top of the levers travel. theres only 1 cable that goes into the little release bar thing however... my question is, is there any way to tighten that cable like you can tighten the ebrake cable? is there any place to kinda snug it up?

hmmm, I have the same problem. I've never really tried to fix it though. Too many other problems... But I'd be interested if there is a fix for it.

i used to have to wedge something under the hatch release. i fixed that by adjusting the latch mechanism in the luggage area.
i dunno about tightening the cable tho.

i think i have a similar problem...is the hatch susspose to "pop" up when i pull the lever? i can open it using the lever but someone has to be pulling up on the hatch in order for it not to catch back on the lock when i let the lever go

for all you guys who have trouble with hatch, try sliding the latch mechanism down a little bit (have to take off the trim panel). after years of use it can slide up, making it unable to release the hatch all the way.
the hatch should make a POP sound, but it will not physically hop off the latch like most cars

Replacing the struts on the hatch will take care of the problem, too....

Same as a hatch, or any other car made. Adjust the latch downward, or raise the striker up. Takes 3 minutes.

heres what i did to fix the hatch problem.... if your hatch does not pop open anymore when u pull the lever.... or if you can hold the lever up and have someone else pull open the trunk this fix will work for you....
1. go the the hardware store and buy a spring about 1.5inches long and bout 3/4 inch diameter.
2. open your hatch and locate the rubber bushing that is in the left corner of the hatch....
3. remove this rubber stopper thing or find hte hold that it goes into if you dont have the rubber stoper anymore.
4. here is where you have options. you can either atempt to thread the spring into this hole or do like i did and weld hte spring to the hatch lid like i did. let me add that welding the spring works a lot better.

now your hatch will .... POP when you pull the lever and u will no longer be wedging stupid shit under ur lever to hold ur hatch up. in my situation my key did not work for my hatch so this was a huge headache ..... i actually got really limber and was able to hold hte lever from outside the car with my foot and then reach way back down the car and pull the hatch up...dont ask cause i have no idea how i used to do that .hahaha was a funny site to see.
