![]() I recently scored a blacktop S13 SR for my two-tone coupe build. I started tearing it apart and not only was a lot of shit missing, I found this pretty discouraging damage on head. Is this fixable or is it a lost cause? I'm thinking a machine shop could weld and deck is and make it good as new but I've never had to deal with something like this. Any input is welcome. I can't manage to get myself to a machine shop until Wednesday to get their recommendation but I don't want to them trying to tackle something that shouldn't be attempted so this is where you guys come in to play.
Yay or nay? ![]() |

I had a head worse than that on a car that I put back together and the machinist made it perfect. I am still kicking myself for not taking before and after shots, but it was really impressive work.
It was basically a wash in cost for finding a replacement head or having the machinist clean up the tatered one. |

Any rough idea what your machine shop bill ran you on it? Good one, bro! LOLOLOL! What isn't a S13? It's a SR20DET out of a S13. I don't know what you're getting at. You make zero sense. |

That's easily repairable, however there's a chance you'll lose the quench pads. If this is a basic rebuild, I'd find another one to use that isn't damaged. There are benefits to not having quench pads on high hp motors, but not on daily driver low powered setups. Quench pads help with the burn. Typically they are removed to deshroud the valves.

Putz..no trader rating, 5 posts, 18 years old and knows everything. Probably a troll. OP I wish you luck. That head looks a bit scary. If it were a sr you might be able to find a easy replacement. But since it is just a blacktop I think it may be a hard fine

Bahaha. Thanks man. I might do as suggested and build it for high boost depending what a machine shop says. The block looks intact and fine but that part of the head is sketchy. I wonder what could have even done that.
