Kaaz 2 Way LSD
So i just bought a Kaaz Super 2 Way LSD for my 89 240. is the install rather simple? ive never messed with something like this before. i have the rear diff out of the car already and got the cover off. just not sure if i dare proceed or just take it to a shop. im fairly good with cars but ive never messed with gears in trans or diffs before.

Before someone says the search bar is your friend. It's pretty easy to swap the ring gear. The hard part is getting the backlash correct. It would be worth it to get a professional to shim the differential to get the backlash right.

Pretty much how much space between the teeth of the gear. I have no idea how to go about setting it. |

It will probably work if you just put the same spacers back in. I didn't set backlash when I installed my cusco differential, and there is a whining noise because the backlash is a little bit out of spec. I took the differential apart last year to check the backlash. I then talked to a local differential guy and he said if I hadn't messed up my the gears by now it's probably fine (almost 5 years). He also said I could risk messing things up if he re-shimmed it after driving it around with the wrong backlash, so I just put it back in and have to deal with the whining noise. If I knew then what I know now, I would have had it shimmed by a professional when I installed it in the first place. Some people get lucky and don't have to get it shimmed, but I would have yours checked out anyway.

Put it back in just as you have it, you'll be fine. That is keep your shims on the correct side and slap it back in as you took it out.
Differentials are resilient parts...blind monkeys can put them together and have it stay in one peace for tens of thousands of miles. Should you always check? Sure...but who has the tools (I do but that's aside the point) at home or the shop? Run some wax/gear wax on the ring gear to make sure she's running good and go from there.
