s13 exterior trim pieces fading/cracking?

what do you guys do about this? ive seen alot of s13's that have the black stuff peeling off of the trim peice that is located on the top of the door where the door meets the window. what do you guys do if that starts peeling off? is there a way to replace it or something?

My latest S13 project has all these trim pieces that have hardened, cracked, faded, you name it. Courtesyparts.com seems to have replacements, but they're OEM and still pricy. Other than that, I would suggest part-out threads, and pick-a-part type places. That's what I'm going to do, and if I can't find them in good condition, I might bite the bullet and buy them new when the car goes in for paint.

yeah you can just replace it, find a door with the trim thats still in good condition, remove the door panel, remove the 1 or two screws and it comes right off. repeat this process on your car and then in reverse and your done.

Don't know why people even consider used for something like this.

Car is over 20 years old at this point(depending on the year).

Like 80-90% of S13's have some really beat to shit weatherstripping.

Buy new.

You won't have to worry about it for years to come.

The piece on the door is metal afaik and if you remove it, would be very easy to repaint.

Ill be doing the same for mine soon.

im not talking about painting the rubber part, i mean the part below it. i think my best option would be to buy from dealer. im trying to make it look brand new.

if i go to the dealer do i just show them what im talking about or is there a part number?

Johnny has it right. Used trim on our cars looks like shit. Now replacement trim is expensive but the fact is you want the car to look good with fresh paint? Then new is the way. About the only piece I would recommend repainting is the top black metal trim above the door. Its uber expensive and can be painted and covered with window visors.
All other trim area get new.

Oh and Udon the trim piece your talking about at the top of the door is called the window sash. I would recommend replacing it as it keeps water from running into your door and used they get old and start cracking. Sure the metal part on it is easy to paint but to do it right? Buy new.

Also called the door belt moulding, they run about $110-120 per side. I bought new ones for my S14 because even with two dozen parts cars worth of extras every one I had was all scratched up. For S13s they're not only worse but the rubber is usually pulling away at the rear edge.
