SR20DET Boost Controller
Hope this is in the right section.
I have zero experience and limited knowledge about boost controllers.. I am constantly learning by reading and searching, but that seems to really only get me so far. Setup right now is a stock redtop SR with light mods (IC, Exhaust, etc.), but the project will be ramping up rather quickly. Do not have much set in stone as I am still debating my setup. What I do know is I am going VE/VVL and will be making over 400 wheel (and will be seeing boost levels as high as 25 psi)...... Eventually... (GT2871 or GT3071/76, leaning towards the 3076..) I am fishing for information from you kind folks on what you are running and what you have had experience with (feel free to let me know your setup, too). My questions are: 1) Will I be able to buy one and it do the job for the stock setup and it can just carry over to the projected end results or am I better off/will be buying another one down the road and 2) What do you recommend for me. What are you running, why'd you pick it, what do you like about it, etc. Also, I notice some people saying something about some of the EBC's not happy over or around 20 psi. These for me will be unacceptable as I will more than likely be operating @ 21/22 - 25 psi. Thank you in advance for any and all the information and expertise you guys have, and thanks for helping me out. And, if it helps, I am looking at what seems to be the obvious choices... Apexi AVCR, Greddy Profec, etc |

I strongly suggest starting off with a tunable ECU, such as NismotronicSA, which has built in boost control (including boost by gear) for controlling an inexpensive Electronic Boost Solenoid. If you're planning to spend around $500 for a boost controller alone, the NismotronicSA system will give you that, plus a whole lot more features and capabilities, including converting from MAF to speed-density (MAP sensor). Contact John at JKTuning for more information. He's in Carlisle, PA.

I am still deciding what ecu I need.. Any idea what will support an redtop SR w/ the VE head swap/conversion on top of a distributor conversion and an MSD 6AL setup?
Bump! Anyone else? Need a boost controller! |

Considered Tru Boost as I heard it has the same solenoid as the AVC-R? (correct me if I am wrong) But seeing as how I already purchased Autometer Sport Comp gauges I would like to utilize those..

Haltech Pro 2000, or AEM Infinity ECU's have boost control built in and can handle the VET no problem. added bonus, they also run on Speed density and can control your fans. no more need for a pesky fan switch or MAF sensor. ball hard enough you can get the flex fuel for it as well along with a full time wideband target AFR tune.

Woah woah woah... VET with a distributor? This is the 21st century my man... If anything you could have a crank trigger setup which will be 10x more precise than a distributor and I'm sure there's plenty of multi-spark coilpack setups you can find.

I believe the Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 also has a built-in boost controller feature as well. Or it better, I didn't buy a boost selenoid for nothin!

![]() I am sure as far as precision goes, it is marginal. I will continue searching, but the stockers suck, and it seems the splitfires are only a slight improvement - and with mixed reviews I already plan on putting my money into some other option. I have NEVER -->EVER<-- heard of a distributor (I should say aftermarket/upgraded dizzy setup) not delivering enough juice... |

Go with ls2 coil packs and ditch the distributor option. They are easy to wire in and deliver plenty of juice.

You need to call him and discuss the cost. It friends on what all you want. He doesn't really do cookie cutter kits. He puts together what you need and prices it out. Give him a call and discuss it with him.
