I don't get the broke hate.

Some of us are broke - we still like having fun.

Having a lot of money doesn't make you inherently respect stuff, in fact it often does the opposite - you can just afford to be a douche with shiny stuff.

The problem is douches, not having cars accessible to lots of people. I want cars accessible to lots of responsible people, such that we have a voice when it comes to irrational regulations that hurt us (ie. needing carb stamps on your crap, even when your car passess the sniffer, which should be all that matters). It's really hard to argue against that when all the people in your community are either assholes who just want to break everything, or too rich to care, because they'll just erod it or whatever (and since rules effectively just don't apply to people with money).

I've met plenty of people over the years who have built better cars on low budgets than people with deep pockets.

Having come from a low income family myself, I definitely understand what it's like to prioritize. You also learn very early on to not daily drive a project if it's your only method of transportation.

People seem to appreciate a car more that they've built themselves as opposed to having a shop put it all together for them.

In my personal opinion, threads like "You're doing it wrong" really need to go away. We spend more time focusing on and criticizing people who are "doing it wrong" instead of focusing on bettering ourselves and the community as a whole.

Just my .
