My low beams turn off when my high beams get turned on. However I think that has to do with my HIDs and I hate it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Uh, isn't that how it's suppose to be? In the vintage Porsche world, you have the two bulbs, running lights (low) and driving (high). US market cars you're switch gives you off, low, high. There is then the "euro mod" in which you do some wiring so your switch is off, low and low/high. |

I think when I turn on my high beams both bulbs are on, it was the fog lights that turn off when the high beams come on.

Im starting to think it has something to do with H1 bulbs since they only have one prong and the ground.....and when the stock headlight bulbs had three.... |

mine have always been either low, or high. you don't get both.
but then i've always had HID's since 2009 and i don't remember before that.

If your HID lights turn off when you hit the high beams, it's because the circuit hasn't been wired completely.
The stock 240sx low beam bulb has 3 terminals. Terminal 1 is high beam power. Terminal 2 is ground. Terminal 3 is low beam power. When your lighting stalk is set to low beam, the light bulb receives 12v power on Terminal 3. When you switch to high beam, the lighting stalk CUTS power to Terminal 3 and sends 12v power to Terminal 1 instead, along with 12v power to the high beam bulb. On high beam setting, both high and low beams should be illuminated. This is why HIDs will cut off when you hit the high beam. Because HIDs have only 1 power wire, most people will connect that wire to the low beam side only (Terminal 3) To function correctly, the HIDs power wire must be connected to both high and low beam power wires (Terminal 1 and 3) It is important to use a diode when connecting to the high beam side. Otherwise, the 12v power would backfeed and the high beams would be illuminated when the lighting switch is set to low beam. High beams and HIDs would both always been on regardless of switch position. Hopefully I explained that in an understandable way. Long story short; to get your HIDs to stay on when you switch to high beam, add a wire jumper from the HIDs power wire to your high beam side (Terminal 1) using a diode in the circuit. It's actually a lot more simple than it sounds. Last edited by dbeiler; 03-26-2015 at 10:43 AM.. Reason: added info |

So to get the low beam and high beams to work at the same time on high beam...I would have to .....
Hook up a diode to terminal #1 thats feeding the high beam and the other side of the diode would go to terminal #3 for low beam ? |

You can also wire in a relay, there's a write up of that online somewhere. I've been meaning to do it but for some reason I haven't. Unless a diode is a relay then never mind. Wiring terminology is foreign to me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
