check engine light help

Hi,

I have ka24e in my 90 240sx with 5 speed manual. Lately the check engine light keep pop up when i drive above 65 mph. If i drive in higher speed, it will pop out frequently and stay long. however, if i let go the gas, within 5 second, it will go away. It is very odd for me. does any one know what it is? does it associate with my low mpg? (19-20)

also i a wondering that does the error code locked inside the ecu even the check engine light is not on?

thanks

It's very odd for me that no one is willing to help at all, perhaps no one here has a old ka24e?

however, i replaced O2 sensor and it still dont fix the problem. now i think it might be EGR problem, but does my symdrom sounds like EGR problem? and once again, does the error code get locked inside the ECU?

thanks

My guess, off the top of my head, is the EGR, check to see what the code is throwing. The EGR has crazy hoses that brakes for fun.

P.S. Donate 50 cents to me if you find that helpful!!!

Thanks for reply.

IT is OBDI so i think a scanner will not work. So Even my CEL is not on, i still can get the error from the ECU?

also i am wondering what is the symdrom for leaky injectors? and what is the symdrom for EGR malfunction?

thanks all

its your EGR hose, or one of them, I had the same problem, but mines a 95, my light turned on and off like it had a mind of its own. Turned out the egr hose had a crack on the bottom but I didnt notice it. I finally saw the problem when I did my sr swap, it turned out the egr hose had a gash on the bottom of it. Here are some indications it might be this problem, the car smells funny like unburnt gas or a gas leek ,some funky smell, sometimes. OR it could be something else? but just inspect the hoses and youll find out.

P.S. my engine had 139,000 on it.
