Most insurance companies go off your local area market value. My insurance company (State Farm) gave me 5K for my 96 SE. Due to someone selling a 95 at 5K.
Although I think they accounted for the new head gasket and Z32 brakes up front, that I told them about. Best part is I only paid 2K for the car.
