I would help you buy, 1) I have an S14, and 2) someone removed mine for me and I didn't see how they did it... and since they took it with them (along with the defroster, alarm indicator, hazard light switch, cigarette lighter, ashtray... oh yeah, and my stereo) I am not sure if they broke it or not!

Actually, the S14 center piece is pretty easy to take out. Pop up the shifter plate, two screws exposed in the bottom, one where the ashtray is, pop off the top piece with the vents, disconnect switches, two screws up top, remove rest of panel. I am pretty sure that's how I got mine out.
