replace the thermostat and your hose.
Run the engine. See if it feels different. It takes a lot to warp a motor (even if it overheats).. My car used to have overheating problems too. It used to go close to the H, and then back down after turning the heater on, and driving the car (really slowly.. to let air blow on the radiator). It was my thermostat and I never bothered to replace because i was lazy lol. one day my radiator blew after a hard run, and the needle shot up. I turned the car off. Replaced radiator and thermo, and to this day (3,000 miles after the event) i haven't had any problems. I can say it used to overheat once a week (on hot days only) for a few months.. lol, when i was on my test drive to buy the car, it blew a radiator hose too. But i feel that if your engine just stalled after it overheated, it might (MIGHT) be worse. How long did you let it overheat (immediate timewise. meaning, how long was the needle on Hot?) How far did the needle go? Past the red? or just below the H and stay up for a while? When it shot up, you didn't continue to drive it did you? Anyways, of course you can do the usual compression test as well. So just replace those two parts (it should be like $10 to replace both) and check it out.

Replace the hose and make sure you have it on all the way with a good clamp. Do a compression test like this other guy said.
Wtf, is up with saying you don't need the thermostat.....you were joking right?

once my upper hose popped the car turned off and i didnt even try turning it back on, i took it to phase2 and they ran a compression test, it was bringing out low #'s like 80, 70... the guy told me that it was suppose to be reading at like 150, i dont kno wat type of units those #'s were but thats wat he read off this gauge he was using.... and yea i wasnt kidding about taking off the thermostat, u dont need it, its only there to heat up the air u use for ur heater

you learn something new every day ![]() you're talking about the heater core, although the thermostat being there does help the water heat up faster so technically you'd be able to use the heater quicker with a thermostat

The thermostat is the device that lets your engine stay at its operating temperature in conjunction with the other cooling devices. In other words. YOU NEED IT.
