Clutch Doesn't Engage!

Ok, so I just spend a nightmarish day installing a new clutch, pressure plate and T\O bearing.

I finish it now at 3 am after spending 4 agonizing hours bench pressing the transmission. Starts up just fine. I try to back it out for the night and bickity bam my hopes and dreams are shattered...

The car can't get into gear short of forcing it.

WTF.

Clutch feel is VERY stiff (swapped to an aftermarket clutch) and the pedal travel feels normal. A visual at the slave cylinder showed me that the fork is moving properly and everything. So.... WTF IS WRONG HERE!?

Did you have the flywheel resurfaced? If you did, the flywheel should be stepped not flat.

NOBODY Could have known what was in store for me when the tranny was out.

I took it to Garage Works in Palm Dale because they are good people, and watched them take off the transmission muc much quicker then I could have even with a lift.

Everything was COMEPLETELY A OK. T/O Bearing, fork alignment, slave cylinder! that is, until the pressure plate came off.

The clutch came out like normal except it had frayed edges. It was an SR clutch disk. It turned out I got flyberts disc as well as his name on my box... Funny huh? SR disks are slightly bigger in diameter and still look like they fit the KA, but they don't. =(

I called Phase2Motortrend that second and demanded another disk and reimbursement for the money I was spending having the clutched changed by a shop. The disk came in the next day and I drove it home. It turned out to be a shipping error with RPS(at least thats what they SAID).

BUT

I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN REIMBURSED, & WAS NOT CALLED AS I WAS REASSURED I WOULD BE.

PS. anybody that works with or for phase2 should get on it because I need to eat!

Well in all fairness you should have checked to see if the discs were similar before installing it. They could have been jerks and not given you anything because you did sign for the package.

HA!....yeah right. In all fairness he should have gotten what he paid for from the get go. If you would blame yourself for someone else's mistake you are a victim to your own stupidity.

Well shit, mistakes happen son. Just like it was his mistake to install that disc without checking, just as it was the shops mistake to send the wrong disc to him. Bottom line is that he should have checked.

I agree with TheTicTac. You always always compare parts when installing them yourself. Like brakes and such, you don't just go and put them on. You compare the pads and the rotors to double check you have the right sizes. And this happens alot, so you're a victim of your own stupidity if you didn't double check.

It's okay. I know I'll be laughing the next time you don't double check and you're gonna post it on zilvia that you got the incorrect parts. And then, you'll put the full blame on the company when all you had to do was spend 30 seconds comparing disc sizes

I double checked. I even triple checked... I lost the head of a pressure plate bolt to the triple check(which i properly removed and replaced).
The clutch disk actually fits inside the pressure plate fine. The differences are too small to tell atleast with my limited experience with clutches.

ANYWAY, the car runs fine. I'm still breaking in the clutch.

Thank you's to the fine gentlemen at Garageworks for their tip top work, and thanks to Wayne at phase2 for awsome customer service, the reimbursement for the labor, as well as the very quick resolution of the situation.

Good to hear you got it resolved and the correct way as well. Which RPS did you get? Sport or Max? street or puck? I recently just installed the Illegal Garage clutch and am in the process of breaking as well.

Well there you go. I thought it recommended it on the instructions. At any rate, my friend with his 86 didn't break his in, but I thought I'd just do it for peace of mind.
