off topic story, once upon a time I was in Portland, like 2011ish. I'm at a gas station, pull up to the pump. Wait for the attendant. Wait more. Wait even more.......

Eventually I get out of the car and just start pumping my own gas. Lady in the car behind me says to me "you know how to do that???"

"yeah"

"did you have training???"

OMFG.



Then I remember that once upon a time, elevators had to have attendants/operators too.
