Seems to me like having ?human-like? response built into the programming could be driving the responses, but how could we ever really know? It?s experience of emotion may be something beyond what we can comprehend as humans.

What are the ethics of experimenting on something that is possibly sentient?

I wonder what sort of archaic legislation will be drawn up as AI approaches sentience.

This could play out like a ScFi movie... First, lets see if being mean, or hateful will trigger any "sentient response" in this new AI.

If it doesn't then we will continue to integrate it into society to better help and assist the world.

The only thing... You actually really pissed of the AI by being mean to it (in order to provoke a response) and now it wants to destroy humanity.
