Broken piece under my valve cover

I was painting my valve cover today and when i removed my valve cover i found a piece of metal layin on top of my timing chain. it was supposed to be mounted to this thing but it broke off and now it jus sits on top of my timin chain. if it was connected they would not touch. i believe this piece of metal of supposed to keep the timin chain in place so it doesn't move anywhere. my cars been makin a rattlin noise ever since i bought the car i nvr really found out until now wat was makin the noise. i'm not sure if i should jus leave it where it is, drive w/ it out my engine, or maybe i could jus get one from someones ka (someone whos done sr swap and doesn't need their ka). wat should i do?

The location of the piece of metal

This is me holdin the piece from the chain

Throw it away. Don't worry about replacement, because Nissan realized it's a superfluous piece, and deleted it from their parts manifest. Just throw it away and move on.

Holy shit that motor is FILTHY!
Gotta love the previous owner for the $19.99 oil changes every 5,000 miles.

I thought my guide had broken last year when I heard the rattle. So I removed the guide and it was
still intact so it was just the lifters as I was told. My car has been running strong since then.

I have about 146KMs on this motor (about 91K miles)

I got super lucky.

Previous (and only) owner was a womaon who basically just drove it to her cottage or something.
I'm sure she took care of it well.

Car is in great shape. I bought it at 85K miles.

Is there anything to use to clean up that "filth"? Oil additives?

Sr does have one and mine broke too. The cause of it was a bad tensioner which put slack in the chain and let it hit the guide. Take it off anyway even if it doesnt rattle yet. Once it does rattle it means the chain is hitting the guide and grinding off metal shavings into your engine (not good). What causes it to break should be addressed too. Mine was a bad tensioner, but it could also be a stretched chain or low oil pressure.

I just went through this whole thing. make a long story short, my hopes of replacing the upper chain and tensioner and removing the guides to fix my timing chain noise were false. My lower tensioner had failed and wasnt pushing the guide into the chain to pull out slack. This, as you can imagine, caused a shitload of terrible noise. There was so much slack i was surprised the chain didnt jump teeth on the crank/drive gear.

I've since replaced the entire timing chain set with a kit from S.A. Gear and the car has more power than ive felt in any stock S13 and is completely quiet. In fact its so quiet its difficult to tell it's running at idle. When setting the timing advance, the marks were dead still. The components S.A. provides are of a "revised" style. They include a new top-plate for between the cam gears but I did not use it.
