Thanks! Its nice to have the outlet to keep the story going.

A couple weeks ago I signed up for the pre season Test and Tune / Autocross school day with my local club.

It was the first time out with the car since its been tuned. The car preformed flawlessly all day. The event allowed for way more seat time over a typical autocross round.

The day started out nice but then it poured rain just after lunch which made the car a bit more of a handful and any sort of drifting is frowned upon.

My first autocross round did not go well. I managed to get one run in before the car started going into a limp mode. Turns out the TPS was going out of calibration, the ecu would see the raise in RPM without throttle input and cut power to the injectors at 2000rpm.

I managed to get the car home and the shielding on the TPS wiring was grounding to the signal wire causing the wonky voltage. Easy fix but annoying nonetheless.

I decided to channel my inner Adrian Newey and chucked on the diffuser I had kicking around the garage. I had ordered it in FRP pre covid from ebay and was pleasantly surprised when it showed up in carbon.

Its probably a hinderance but it completes the look of the rear which I’ve always thought sits a little high without the rear valance I had before.

July 7 I had a Evening lapping session booked at Calabogie Motorsports park. Up until this point, I have only ever really driven on tracks with zero elevation. I think this event was the most fun I’ve had with this car. I did 2 x 30 minute sessions in behind a pace car. We were grouped in Pods based on skill level and experience, the pace was decent and it was a great way to learn the line of the track.
The brakes (with the cheapo Rockauto Pads) were phenomenal and all the cooling mods meant that the car barely hit 90deg C the entire session.

I drove up with my Dad in his BMW 2002. Was a fantastic driving road up to the track.

This past Monday I got invited to a private track day at Shannonville Motorsports park. We had the whole facility for about 15 cars. I ended out doing close to 100km on track, the car just did lap after lap without any issue at all.
The car needs a nut and bolt check and other than that its ready to go for the next round of autocross. The Valino tires which came with my Advan wheels probably have a bout 30% life left in them after the 2 track days and I will run them until the end of the season.

.

Good car is good.

Its been a busy summer to say the least but its the first time since 2020 that the car has been driveable the entire season since the great lockdown of 2020
I've been doing autocross every couple of weeks which has been an absolute blast. The car is a handful (especially in the wet)

I ran out of talent when the track started drying out and hit a few cones. The impact broke the mounting tab on the FRP fenders and cracked the paint on the bumper.

I Printed some mounting tabs from ASA filament and bonded them to the inside of the fender. But since the bumper had been scuffed, I didn't really feel bad about drilling into the bumper.

Garage defend canards finally mounted.

I had Martino from Design Shop React, make up some number plates so things are getting really serious.

The canards and rear diffuser make the centre of the car look really high. I finished printing the side skirt extensions and did a quick test fit.

I think they tie the lines at the bottom of the car together perfectly.

To match the rear diffuser, I decided to try carbon fibre skinning for the first time and boy is there ever a steep learning curve. Its my first time ever trying this (and I should have started on a simpler part). The issue I am having is the cloth keeps lifting from the part once I fully wet it out. So far the best method has been putting the epoxy on the part and waiting for it to get to a “B Stage” cure. Then you put the cloth on and wait for it to dry before fully wetting it out.

And now we sand. Forever.

For skinning the parts in carbon the easiest method is to tape edges where the won't be seen if possible, wet out the fabric and vacuum bag them. I wrap it all in a rough peel ply and then breather cloth to soak up excess resin and leave a surface that needs minimal prep to put a few more coats of epoxy on top.
You just need to be careful when the bag is pulling down that no fabric is trapped or lifted from the part where it's not supposed to be.
That long shape would be perfect for the bag film tube as well, then use these style clamps to seal off both ends quick and easy.

Thanks for the tips. I tried to cheat the process and use Super 77 Spray adhesive in some of the trickier areas but that only lifted once I wetted out the fabric.

I think I should have started on a simpler (smaller) part which I could bag easy. I also have mount plates for F1 style mirrors (ali craft square) which would have been easier to manage for a first project.

Either way I am having fun and learning.
