They are shims, and they are valve specific. hope you didn't mix and match them.

The top part is a retainer, or a rotator. It is not a shim, the shims go on the machined part where the spring sits. You should most likely not mix them up but it shouldn'tcause any problems.

When you buy 24eggs... Use the egg carriage and label the lil boxes 1-24..that way when you remove yoru caps, you already have them ordered and ready to go during the install.

The exhaust valve will sometimes have a rotator spring retainer that allows the valve to turn a small degree everytime. I'm not sure if that's how it is done on our engines. Otherwise they are all the same.

place them back in any order, then when the head is completely back to gether you have to turn the cams and measure the valve lift. (i dont know how far the valve are acually suppost to move) but if everything fits tight and there is no slack and everythng seem to fit tight your ok, and no i dont believe the shims are different for intake and exhaust. you should call nissan and get a manual that is specific for the year 240 you have, it will cost you 60 bucks but it tells you everything about that motor.

You need to set the engine at top dead center for no.1 cylinder and set the lash using shims under the lifters with the cams installed for the front four valves at the specific intake and exaust clearances specified in an FSM. Repeat for the other 3, setting engine at tdc for each. you will need a metric feeler gauge and a lifter compressor and a bunch of shims to do this successfully.
