I had troubles before with the release handle for the trunk on my 95' 240sx. The latch holding the trunk down was bent, so I straightened it out, and it worked fine for a month or so.

Now though, I can't get the trunk, OR the gas tank open! The only thing I can possibly think of is that the cable needs tightening, but can anyone else suggest other possible problems that might be causing this? I can hear things moving up and down when I push and pull on the release handle, so the mechanics of it all are fine. I need help bad though, my tank is at less than 1/4 tank!!

i don't know if it's the same for the s13 and the s14, but i had the same problem.  but my trunk would open and the gas couldn't, i found out when i had been running w/ the gas light on for 2 days, i was like OH SHIT!

i don't know if it'll help, since u can't open the trunk

but for the s13, the wire runs from underneeth the both rear passanger seats, this is FYI, incase u need it.

i opend my trunk, and figured where the line was running, on the passanger side, behind the plastic stuff, right above the wheel base, there's this thing that controls your gas door, which a sleve is covering the cable, this thing broke off, so i had to manually open my gas door by pulling the gas door spring so the gas door opens, then i forced the left over sleves into the gas door device and now mine is working fine, just a lil sluggish on the opening of trunk and gas door.

ok, that was getting a slight bit confusing, it's hard to explain it in words, but if you can open your trunk, w/  key or what ever, pull the rear passanger side plastic open, and see that thing i'm taking about, i'm sure u'll figure it out, or at lease temperarely to get your gas

hope it helps...

Yeah, that would suck ass if you couldnt get the gas door open. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;I would say check the cable tension, If both stopped working then make sure the cable is still attached to the lever. If it comes down to it just do what 240meowth said.

Thanks for the advice, but I got it sorted out, for now. I'll keep eveything in mind if it comes up again. Seems my cable is touchy or something, because I tried the trunk and gas tank release this morning, and both worked fine! I coated everything in wd-40 to be sure....getting to those sleeves in the trunk would have sucked big time though, my trunk only opens with the release handle, not the keys! :!:
