hey everybody,... as you can see, this is my very first post here. i use to go to streetracing.org, and they are helpful when it comes down to my crx... but they really don't answer my 240 questions.... so here i am.
so heres my 1st question... my 93' 240 grinds everytime i crank it the first time. But when i crank it again, its perfectly fine... so can i take the starter out of my 89' 240 (partscar) ?... will this fit? are they the same? is the problem even the starter?
my 2nd question: i wanted to take the cruise control out of the 89' and put it in the 93'... parts should fit, right? i know that i will have to change the steering wheel too... but other than that, this should be easy...right??
any help is much needed... thanks everybody.

welcome to the forum!

looks like starter part no's are the same, so yes.

the starter bendix gear could have worn or broken teeth, or the flywheel ring gear (5spd) or flexplate (auto) may have worn or broken teeth. this causes grinding or jumping. for your sake, hope it's the starter!

cruise upgrade.....many Japanese cars came "wired" for all accessories available at that time, but may not have the actual option, ie cruise. that would make life real easy. get a FSM wire diagram and see if you have those wires. i know the turnsignal switch assy is diff for cruise, cuz thats where the contacts r for electrical hookup to the wheel (researched when modding my S14&#33 otherwise u have to wire the whole thing. next concern is how the system hooks up to ur accelerator mechanism. i'm not familiar enough with S13s, so i don't know if SOHC and DOHC setups r the same or not...... . could be a pc of cake, or not worth it at all! PS i relocated my cruise switch down to my center console in my S14 cuz i installed a Momo wheel, wanted to keep cruise, but not concerned bout switch location.
hope some of this helps!

about the grinding.... i wouldn't be able to find out if its my 5th gear or my starter unless i changed the starter right? how could it be my flywheel??? how does starting my car affect the flywheel? just curious...
about the cruise control, seems like alot more work than i care to do.... i read up on it before i start tearing shit apart....

The starter motor gear connects to the engine via the toothed edge of the flywheel.
