I used maya. There's several different software packages to choose from. Most of them offer a free learning version as a demo. There are TONS of sites now that offer free traning and the various software packages like 3dbuzz.com and 3d-palace.com. Lots of video tutorials. Hope this help alittle.

What version of maya did you use? I was using maya for 2 1/2 years but ive made nothing nearly as good as that. What is it made out of polygons or nurbs?
