deleting sunroof

i'm one tall mutha and i cant drive in my s14 se for more than and hour without back pain from hunching over. the solution...removing my sunroof and gaining another 2 inches of head room. the sparco evo2 seat on order should help too after its bolted to the floor.

I'm dropping her off at the body shop first thing in the AM. I'm so excited. I will be sure to post pics as soon as she's out of the shop.

Step 1: Remove glass
Step 2: Sawzall roof off
Step 3: Place non-sunroof sheet metal in place
Step 4: Weld
Step 5: Replace glass

nope...here's the plan:

1) remove sunroof
2) grind/cut off sunroof mounting brackets
3) weld sheet metal in place of the sunroof
4) smooth/grind welds and finish off with minimal bondo work
5) enjoy the 2" of extra headroom

I did a similar "sunroof delete" a few months back...I removed the OEM S14 sunroof, and replaced it with a clear sheet of plexi. I have since replaced that with a tinted piece, looks like stock from anything more than 2ft away.

Here's the writeup I did on FreshAlloy, with a few bad pics:

the fact that the roof is hard to work on due to it flexing a lot (believe me i know) adds to the pain.

My autobody shop quoted me $600 (this is without paint) pricey in know, but worth it to me. But keep in mind a new headliner is needed.
