LSD for Grip

Hi guys.

I have '95 Nissan 240SX which's S14.

I'm on grip right now, not really doing drift.

But I need LSD so much.. cuz it's losing traction at the exit of the corner.

also burning my inner tire.

"""""SO, which LSD should I go for? (for grip)""""""

mine doesn't have stock VLSD and ABS.

I've searched some, and found nismo LSD, 38420-RS661.
is 661 1.5way? or 2way?

thank you guys~

VLSD is pretty good for "grip" driving...I can see how all these guys bitch about it for drifting, but they are not bad for auto-x and open track events.

I have a VLSD in my S14 with ~300rwhp, and it serves me quite well, for little local events, to the big road courses (Sebring and Road Atlanta)...I rarely have traction issues at corner exit, and I can rotate the car with the throttle EASILY.

...so don't discount that option yet.

True. The VLSD maybe isn't the most exciting thing but they're cheap, effective and it makes for pretty civilized street driving in crappy weather.

except that VLSD"s wear out and any one you find will be used and have a limited life expectancy

If you have one that's still working, I suppose its effective enough

For grip driving, though, you want the 1.5 clutch which can handle the more power

Read this:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...highlight=HLSD

and search more for differentials

i would say it depends on driving style; some people may prefer the understeer on corner exit a 2-way lsd provides. *shrugs* but i think it's safest to say the hlsd or 1.5-way is the best bet.

The moment you have really sticky tires (race compounds), you'll spin the inner tire with a VLSD....

Mine lived up to the point that I got coilovers. Even with race tires.

i don't know of anyone that's worn out the vlsd to the point that it becomes ineffective,
another plus side is that it's def not as noisy as clutch types

on that note, shameless plug:

how do I get VLSD?

Thank you guys for replies~

Then, how am I supposed to get VLSD? or even HLSD?

The only ideas I have are

1. get NISMO LSD (part no. 661)(if it's 1.5 way, i might get this option)

2. search junk yard to get J30's LSD (Will it fit perfectly with my S14 stock
axle and everything?)

3. search junk yard to get S14's VLSD (I'm sure this will require new axles which I don't want to be bothered)

searching junk yard would be bitching... Nismo LSD seems the easiest but at the same time, the most expensive..

What should I do to get LSD? Help me plz...

dude, click on my link, i'm selling one:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=84311

that'll definitely fit, since it was on my car, it's 6 bolts side flange, no need for new axles, it's low mileage, lots of life left,

all you need is to switch the rear cover, it's easy, just take off 8-10 bolts and swap cover, easy as pie, ask anyone here

If you're learning to grip drive, you probably want to stay away from the 1.5/2-way LSD's. They will not help your learning curve since traction is easily lost on throttle-off/heavy braking situations.

Just remember a few things: All LSD's will wear during ANY type of cornering situation, they just wear faster when wheelspin occurs. Also, LSD's will not add traction, but rather help you read your car's traction limits and aid in controlling loss of traction.

Also, rebuilding a stock LSD is an option, so VLSD's are a viable option. They are a good beginner's tool to learning grip, and easily rebuilt/swapped. It's really simple, and anyone who can swap coilovers and read directions can easily overhaul their diff guts.

go to friggin www.ka24dedevelopment.com and read orion's massive page on VLSD"s and what fits /doesn't fit

You should really get as much seat time as you can now , open diff or not. When your skill level has improved, you will be able to take ful advantage of any diff you get.

As for HLSD's...search, there are plenty of good threads on them. They are taken from s15 silvia Spec R's (or u can spring for a Quaife$$$$) and you put the internals and output shafts into your existing open diff pumpkin

you know...good tires improve grip levels too
