Hmmm I've had mine on both sides, I haven't noticed the diff but I wasn't paying attention. On my current setup the stock recirc valve is on the cold side, right at the throttle body almost, well thats how the RB is stock. When I change to the fmic setup, its gonna be around the battery tray area , right after the cold pipe comes up from below the engine bay.
