s14 Cleaning my HKS Air filter

So this is the first time i decided to clean this thing as it was lookin kinda dirty.

So i went and bought K + N air filter leaning kit. My thoughts were that it should basically do the same as any other cleaner. Correct?...well i used the cleaning solvent and all the grease, or w.e it is, black shit ran off and the filter was lookin almost brand new.... Then part II... Oiling it. Was i even supposed to do this? cuz i oiled it and it turned the inside of the green filter purple. Now i dont see why this matters, but i saw no trace of purple when i cleaned it before so im just wondering.

Do i continue along with the K+N cleaning instructions and do the 2nd coat of oil and then dry and install.

or

Do i clean the filter back to how it was after step one and either install or do somehting different from here?

Thanks guys

i don't think the hks filter is an oiled filter. so no you shouldn't oil it

Shoulda bought a K&N Filter to go with the cleaner

If this is the HKS foam filter, I'd trash it, soon you'll be having foam pieces sucked into your engine, which I hear is not a good ingredient for combustion. Swap it out with a K&N universal clamp on and you should be fine, and probably be flowing better.

Plus, your filter wasn't made to be oiled, and I imagine doesn't absorb the oil quite as well as a real filter should, running on an oiled HKS filter will probably end up with you sucking up oil residue into your MAF and messing that up.

I never heard of the HKS breaking upa nd foam going into the compressor or N/A intake manifold....and I know guys running them on 400 HP motors...as long as it is clean you are fine...The APEXi is the preffered intake won best for cleanliness and HP increase on a few tests I have seen that were not run by the company..K&N is good, but they always collapse after a fw cleaning and use....look at someones older K&N, bet it is not the orginal shape

I had the HKS smf and I didn't oil that thing. But it did kill my maf since it doesn't filter that much and decided to change it. I put on an K&N kit, adapter with velocity stack and the filter and it pulls harder at higher rpms. It is carb legal compared to the universal K&N filter. Go to their website to look at it.
