oil system mod checklist (possible faq?)
been searching around, tons of info turning up, but i still had a few questions; i want to make sure i order everything i need so i dont end up with a halfway installed setup.
ive found that the KA oil filter uses a 3/4 -16 thread, and should be able to use this type of filter relocation block http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...temZ7987558418 i planned to follow that up with one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HD-Du...temZ7975354107 then into somthing like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tru-C...spagenameZWDVW then back into the motor. hose i would get from autozone or whatever. these prices kindof suck, need to shop around more, but i only searched for items with buy it now so i could post an actual price. i figure this way i can relocate my filter to an easier to reach place, add another filter, add a cooler, and pump up my oil capacity, for roughly 150$ shipped (or less after shopping around). i know barbed fittings and worm gear clamps arent the best but i figure a lot of guys have to use this stuff and i havent read much about catastrophic failure. i did read one thing about a guy not getting a good seal on one of the hoses and getting some air bubbles into the oil and somehow fucking somthing up, but that only turned up once. sticking with the 1/2" fittings on everything will simplify stuff if i decide to switch to stainless hose and aluminum fittings later. no confusing adapters and other bs. planned to put the oil filters in the space where my battery used to be, or on the side of the shock tower, near the fuel filter. oil cooler would go where the grill used to be. does this sound good? am i missing anything? |

yea probably a little bit, but you would only have to replace the 2nd one every 2nd or 3rd time compared to the first one, since the first one is doing the majority of the filtering. and later on i could get a magnetic filter for the 2nd one also.
anyone have any idea what kind of effect this will have on the oil pump? |

If KA's are anything like SR's, oil cooler and oil filter relocation kits make the oil pump work harder and cause it to fail sooner. Might want to think about getting a new oil pump while you are at it, especially if your motor has high mileage.

i dunno. the motor i have is supposed to have around 40k miles on it so im just going to leave the pump alone. i got an oil pressure sensor that ill be using to see if there is some pressure drop or anything, also it will be obvious if the pump fails. I havent bought a cooler yet but id like to eventually. what i am looking for right now is a source for braided hose. i need a few feet of some 1/2" or AN-10 hose. anyone know anywhere that carries this?

ok i got this thing installed. it was quite straightforward, didnt encounter any problems. the filters this thing takes are HUGE. its awesome. ive ran this setup all day at a drift meet and absolutley no signs of leakage. this uses the same hose fittings as the greddy relocation kit (barbed fittings and worm gear clamps) which costs like 120somthing, but this one is like 60 bucks, you can put it anywhere, and it comes with a ton of hose so there is no problems with the hoses being short like the greddy kit. heres a pic of it installed. crappy pic but yea
![]() anyway ive put a lot of stress on the car and there is absolutley no leakage or anything. so i deffinitley reccomend this product for anyone looking to do a filter relocation / oil cooler / more oil capacity for cheap. (fyi this raised my capacity by about 1 quart). |

Is there anyway to change the fliter without making a mess? Seems like with the filters set up that way it's gonna dump oil all over the place when you take them off...even after you drain the oil.

To prevent oil from spilling all over when you go to change your filters, punch a hole in the top of each filter as you drain your oil, this will allow almost all of the oil to drain out of the filters, and you will get just a small dribble instead of a flood.

i got a kit almost like this one(relocation) adaptors are lil differnt, but same brand. i have yet to install it but looks like a good product. makes adding oil pressure sending unit very simple and easy to access. putting my filter in same spot as you... only single unit

this is old news, search under my former SN. i did it back in '03.
Results -more oil -low oil pressure -realization 2 are overkill, especially shit fram ones, -STP are better filters -realized "fuk this im switching to canton" -will be re-done possibly end of year PS those kits that raise the oil filter, allowing you to connect hoses for a cooler and guages, IMO are better for non pro-race applications just use quality oil and filter (pricey mobil1, cheapy STP)

stp filters kinda suck... and yea C/M stuff is awesome, but its priced to show... i want to get one later on, the elements are good for what, like 20k miles for the big one? that would pay itself back after a few oil changes
